FALSE RECOVERY

Can't you taste the discontent?
all the rules are broken, bent
Congress bailed the bankers out
guess we know who has the clout

I'll tell you it's not me or you
but the connected privy privileged few
the CEO's bearing ruin's onus
fired or jailed? hell no, a bonus!

Rewards for work so badly done
for being someone's favorite son
unconcerned by what is right
I wonder how they sleep at night

On Wall Street the stocks now soar
is this what Jefferson fought for
all the wealth and all the gain
based on"the common" people's pain

Boarded houses, windows, stores
grow like scabs on spreading sores
whole families put on the street
old folks without enough to eat

Unemployed with haunted eyes
and hopelessness they can't disguise
their skills now useless, obsolete
defeated, bowed, with shuffling feet

It's hard to keep a sense of worth
when you've lost all you had on earth
home foreclosed, car repossessed
a hollow feeling in your chest

Now while everything is strange
do you sense a coming change?
it's time a different world is wrought
built on lessons that we have forgot

A senate seat is not for life
it's hardly like taking a wife
if you do wrong you go to jail
matters not from where you hail

Let's return to that which made us strong
hard work and knowing right from wrong
leaders' decisions affect others
who are someone's sisters or brothers

There's more to life than bottom line
caviar and fine french wine
it's by doing what is right
that will end this current plight

not pleased with ending and open to ideas.........stan

How true, i've been having great difficulty listening to the leader of my particular party, go on about this was all that could be done. Ok keep the banks afloat no more, but make them pay back what they owe, now their making profit. I think they are all tard with the same brush, and look after each other, the old school tie and what not. It's always the same people who come out on top, it is time for a change and we should be incouraging writers and poets everywhere to start the ball rolling. Great poem as per usual. Regards Roscoe...

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

All I know is that a bonus is supposed to be paid for a job well done, not for driving the country into a near depression. If I ran my business the way some of these people did I'd be broke and in jail. Our only hope is to continue cleaning house by way of ballot..................scribbler

It is my considered opinion, that there is nothing wrong with this poem. I like the title you gave it and the goose bumps kept coming as I read on. A very powerful piece that stirs the blood and raises consciousness. I think you should get it published in a political magazine or at least send it to your local newspaper. I'm sorry I can't help with the last lines which you feel inferior, because I thought they were fine and rousing.

I really enjoyed the rhyming sequence throughout.

Thank you but it seems I have left something out. Local papers only publish poetry by children and most political magazines don't accept any poetry that I know of. Of course I've never Tried to get anything published due to lack of skill. thanks for visiting..........stan

And that sums up the problem...........stan

author comment

is that it can't be fixed.

Not in two lines anyway, nor 20,000 lines, not in the last 20,000 years.

Let me know if you come up with the answer! I'll give you $10!

Or I could tell you the answer, but that would probably cause a fight [chuckles]

Did you know how Australia "bought" its way out of the crash? Instead of bailing out the banks the government gave a cash handout to all the citizens below average income to spend. It worked, stimulating the economy, everyone was happy, except the banks and who gives a fuck about how happy they are?

When I first heard how much it was costing each man woman and child in the U.S. to bail out the banks, I said the money( about 45,000 dollars) would better stimulate the economy if given to ordinary citizens. Of course that would make too much sense for the idiots in Washington to support. We have already begun our revolution by ballot and I hope to see it completed in next 3 years..........stan

A much appreciated alternate ending. Thanks for coming by with it........................stan

I too have felt the affect of the total mismanagement of the economy.I haven't had consistent work since all this started.I am just lucky that I have a great family to help me in times like these.thanks for spotlighting this issue in such a great and poetic way.I fear that this poem would make too much sense to those who have the power though. They won't really do anything till the next elections start to roll back around, but then it will only be more hot air.Great write scribbler.

I'm a builder so I think you can imagine my plight. I was lucky enough to see this coming and change the focus of my business and profit expectations in time to avoid being totally idled. I think the House has change enough from last elections to help, but we next must change the Senate and white house. Not neccesarily to another party , but to other people. People who haven't been sucking on the public tit all their lives. People who know what a hard day's work is.End of rant lol. Thanks for dropping by and commenting................scribbler

People will always profit from the work of others. If they don't they won't stay in business. But a CEO of a major corporation needs to realize that in the long run the only successful companies are those who allow their employees to succeed. And politicians need to be replaced by those who realize their service is a priviledge and not a lifetime right.. Always good to see you no matter when you show up................stan

Elections are SUPPOSED to show who pushes the buttons here. Of course an informed person must be able to filter media input to vote intelligently............scribbler

author comment

I don't think most are informed, or intelligent.I fear most have a heard mentality and would be lead to the slaughter if promised another government hand out.

Such may be. But To surrender will lead to a future I prefer to not think about. One in which my country is bankrupt in both morality and resources. So i shall continue to tilt at wind mills............scribbler

I just hope we aren't too late and already too far in the abyss.Fifteen trillion dollar debt is almost unimaginable and is most certainly immoral, but I haven't completely lost faith yet and still see a small ray of hope.

If we can get the socialists out of the way our economy will grow enough to make this manageable. But we must begin to realize that D.C. can't produce prosperity, only we can do that...................scribbler
