Trolls Aren't Mythical

Threatening violence
in wake of words unliked,
knowing online anonymity
will always protect
from real consequence.

Insulting others for
their honesty, manipulating those
that stand by what they say,
yet accept responsibility
when they are wrong.

Fishing for more sympathy
with lies and hateful diatribe
on being so hard-done-by,
while masking hate with
"I'm just trying to help".

Pretending being victimized,
faking hurt and indignation
while sitting back and relishing
every carefully chosen word
extending chaos and hate.

Spouting hateful foulness behind
computer screen protection,
knowing you would not dare do it
to the real face of someone
who would stomp you fucking flat.

Trolls aren't mythical.
Slay them when you can.

Yes, intelligence is all we need, sadly lacking in the 21st century when there is no need for it to be.
Glad that you enjoyed my write.

Ian, trust you to remind me of Billy Goat Gruff and those damned trolls! One of my earliest and few good memories of childhood, being read that tale.
Troll in this context means a person who deliberately stirs up trouble, and looks for angry responses to take advantage of, on the Internet.
Thanks for reading, glad that you enjoyed it.

I hear you, and agree.
No more blog comments from me, or blogs about anything except poetry and related subjects. I'm as sick and tired of the bullshit as you are, and honestly I think we need to re-implement the AEC as fast as we can, to have a formal way of dealing with this petty petulance and cyber hatred.

Its a damn good and expressive write, I enjoyed it quite a bit even if this is about me.Now that I have said that, if it is about me you have me completely wrong and you take too many liberties with the thought that I wouldn't say the same things in real life to someones face, and for the record, I have threatened no one with physical violence. Also if the comments are timestamped you can follow the order of how things came to be.I am what I am, I make no bones about it, and what you see is what you get.I have come to expect things like this from this site as of late and am not surprised if this is about me.If this isn't about me then disregard most of this, lol.Again, it was very enjoyable and well written;-)

Glad that you enjoyed this.
If I write something regarding a specific person, I will name them. Since I did not name anyone, the inference is clear. I have taken no liberties, made no specific accusations against anyone, and therefore if you or anyone else are offended by my words, there is nothing I can do about it.
I do not understand your reference to timestamps. I am assuming that you are refering to something that has occured or is occuring between you and another member, but I am not interested in becoming involved with that situation any further than I already have. I stated my opinion, it stands, and I have nothing else to say on the matter.
I find it interesting, that you would make the assumption that this poem is specifically about you.
I also find it interesting, that you "have come to expect things like this of late" at Neopoet.
Thanks for reading.

I was just curious, and wasn't sure about it.With all the current BS, and some of the hate that I have been receiving about my blog has me a bit paranoid and to be quite honest has me starting to feel a bit like a pariah too.I really do like this poem and I totally agree with you.I only wish that I had the inner strength to ignore when necessary.

There is little that can be done about the hatred at this point, since we have no mechanisms in place for really dealing with it, but I sincerely hope that Andrew, Paul and Rett get our old formal processes back in place soon, so that all of us can deal with that nastiness post-haste, and get on with the business of writing better poetry, and helping each other do it.
You are not a pariah. You have an opinion, it is as valid as anyone else's here, and if other's don't like it, well that's just too damn bad for them.
By the way, I really enjoyed that Switzerland comment you made to me, it was as funny as all hell! I'm chuckling now, just thinking about it.
Ignoring the pettiness and vitriol...to be honest, I'm just too damned old to do anything else, these days, heehee. More seriously, I have seen way too many good sites and chat rooms fall into the morass of personal hatreds, furious mud-slinging and self-rightous stupidity and anger, and I have no intention of watching Neopoet devolve into such a thing. Ignoring such nonsense, en masse, means that those who enjoy it lose their audience and, having the attention spans and intelligence of gnats, soon fly away to other virtual places.
Thanks for reading and enjoying my poem, King.

As explained in the previous post, your assumptions about this poem are your own. Full circle argumentation simply isn't borne out by what my poem contains.
Glad you enjoyed it so much.
As for "James", no apology is neccessary. It is my first name, but my friends call me Jim, that's all.

Years ago I experienced someone from the Internet discovering who I was and where I live. I was young, and stupid, and initially did not care. I was forced to defend myself physically, however, and the event was not pretty, funny, or satisfying. It was a bloody fucking mess, and I had to be, shall we say, very unmerciful, both during the physical altercation, and its aftermath.
I assume that you enjoyed my peom, so thanks for that.

I do not enjoy violence in any form. I posted that because these personality disorders are internet related.

Very sorry for your experience. One never knows what is around the corner. Vigilance is an intelligence.

The poem, well, it *provoked* a reaction from me, eh? Lol.

Another "WOW!" from me. You take my words away with this write. I know what it feels like to be victimized on the internet. Not as severely as your experience, but I was physically attacked by someone I met after knowing her on-line. I hope the scars you bear are small and fading. I especially related to:

Spouting hateful foulness behind
computer screen protection,
knowing you would not dare do it
to the real face of someone
who would stomp you fucking flat.

Yeah, Internet "friends" can be pretty damned dangerous, I know what you mean. Luckily, I am not the opne with scars, though.
Thanks Cat,

Thanks hun.
Yeah, there's no percentage, or common sense, in attacking someone personally on the Internet. Its just pathetic, and it's daft to turn around and retaliate as well. What some dumbfuck halfwit has to say about you personally only means something if you allow it to, and the best way to get revenge is to a) be successful and b) laugh at or ignore the idiot in question. I prefer ignoring them, like the ants that they are. And writing a few lines, to let them and everyone else what I thinki of them!
;)
I like Xena, you know....but I like Rosina just as much, so I hope she isn't wrapped up in that blanket for too long!
