Rula's Trochaic Quatrain (Bottom Line WS)

Writing poetry is fun of course if
you are keen on writing 'bout what touches.
Penning what might strike and hit the senses,
poetry is more than words on canvas.

Workshop:

Scansion and Iambic quatrain (workshop)

1. “When I have FEARS that I may CEASE to BE…” (Keats)

2. “I MET a TRAV’ller FROM an ANtique LAND.” (Shelley)

3. “Shall I comPARE thee TO a SUMmer’s DAY?” (Shakespeare)

So here I write a trenchant little verse
which stands like rigid hemp upon the shore
and through the terms strike daily to disperse
my laxness into discipline and more

Ron

Workshop:

Love anew (Bottom line try 3)

Many years have fled since I looked within
That I lost the touch and sight I loved
Having turned now asking you of loving
Can we start our love in pastures greener?

Ian.T

Workshop:

the savage

sunlight
reflects
from dilated
pupils
as introspective
contemplations pour
into sour sweat
that accentuate the stench
of self worth
enclosed in
the savage essence
of being.

Wesley's Trochaic Quatrain (Bottom Line Workshop)

"Iamb" is Greek for "to attack in words". "Trochee" is Greek for "running".

Both of these forms are known as "Duble Meter" as each metric foot uses but two syllables.

Here then is my Trochaic example.

Don’t you think it’s keen to write Trochaic?

Here I’ve written something for the workshop.

Nothing short of drivel, but it’s metric.

Simply done, its form is but example.

Don’t you / think it’s / keen to / write Tro- / cha-ic?

Workshop:

Goodnight Kiss

Living in another world
singing a different song.
Keeps me away from you
it’s been for far too long.

So I’ll take the early plane
to get back home tonight.
I can’t get to sleep anymore
if I can’t kiss you goodnight.

Never wanted to go away
but I just thought I should.
Doing things, the best I can
to bring about some good.

I need to be home again
singing a familiar song.
Knowing I am with you
back where I belong.

LUNA :Italian/English

LUNA

Quando spunta ' a luna
piano piano me ne vado
sotto l' ombra pallida
come uno spirito smarrito
cecando i raggi del sole

MOON

when the moon rises
slowly I make my way
under its pale shadow
like a soul gone astray
searching for the rays
of the sun.

MYTHS (meter shop)

There dwell within the mists of times long past
the roots of tales and myths we pass along
which help to tell us what is right and wrong
and perhaps how our future lives are cast

an attempt at iambic pentameter*

Workshop:

Childish me

A child and I
have one thing in common
childishness
I remember when as a child,
I wanted my hard earned dollar
ran out of the door my sister
and got a beating thereafter

a decrepit ole soul…
now as senility overpowers me
I think idealism is all I alone reveal
outright stupidity comes to me
I see nothing beyond the fence
blindness
darkness and superflousness
the forests cast shadows
as if twas total darkness
my mind behaves senile

r o w

breadth of night
breathing like the birds
in morning
frost burning off
fresh
and dripping
like forgotten sleet

and dream ghosts
still beneath
tables
in a room
of rows
asleep
