GRATITUIDE

GRATITUDE -update

Thank you for caring for me
with deep love and affection.
Thank you for all the ways
you soothed my days,
Thank you for being my eyes,
my legs ,my hands,
Thank you for understanding
when I cried.
Thank you for crying with me,
And if there is a world beyond
look for me when you too are gone.
I will be waiting...

d e c l i n e

this light
it fell upon her in a way
draped down
her spine
where the golden
fine hairs lay

my heart
was shorn away
and dropped like
a sthone
an anchor thown
its chain with
thisstorm
that borne

before
dead
in a stalled beat
came alive
in the electric sheet
of euphorias
vision
fuck compassion
in pink pearl wonder
i want to get drunk
in the darkness
and blunder

A SUMMER NIGHT'S TAIL

The slight hint of summer's perfume
floats on the air this still dark night.
Perhaps magnolias are in bloom
across the pond near out of sight.

I inhale a deep breath of the south
along with an unseen gnat or bug
which flew right in my open mouth
as if I was an earthbound bat !

When my fit of snorts and choking's done
the bug gets washed down with iced tea.
Susan's laughing having fun
but humor somehow eludes me.

The American girls from New York

When I went to Times Square
in New York
I smiled at one without care

a gal threatened to call 911

I said what the hell
I am square
look here
see there

where did you come in?
I wonder

she smiled and gave me her number
but then I went back into my slumber

what is 911
I did wonder....

Was it her number?

I called and police came in
thank god she was a lady
asked me about my problem
then said ring me up
whenever you wish to
what’s your number?
I asked

My Love (A New Form workshop) Morphing final edit

Damn the red roses
They prickle and aren’t quite true
Just know I love you

I will tell you in short lines
Things I am going to do

I was going to build you a castle
Way up there in the air so cool
But all I could do was make a ramp to you
Life just isn’t that fair to us, too much hassle

Switch Off

I couldn't switch on the news today.
I knew the world would still be groaning
with fighting in Ukraine,
deaths in Gaza, ebola in Africa
and mayhem in Iraq.

What was the point of watching it all again?
Haven't we got enough problems of our own?

But tomorrow I expect I'll turn it on once more,
enthralled by exploding bombs, dying patients,
troop movements, obscure strategies,
and the hunger and thirst of desperate refugees.

How can I ignore all that?

THE SCARECROW

The animals and the birds
do just fine
the trees
either sway in the breeze
or
stay as still as ghosts

At the core of my being
lies a sepulcher
that traps
rays of the sun
and holds them
prisoner
in its dark evil heart

The sweet
inner dynamism
trundles to a halt
and is sucked into
the heart of
obscuration

A deviated, decadent
route
is mapped through
death which parades
as life

The Soul (For Loved who asked for this poem)

The soul is..

the engine that moves the body,
the truth about our identity,
the reason our heart beats
and our minds can think.
It is why we can use our senses
to learn and experience.

It is us in the purest form,
not the one in the mirror.
The mortal skins that we wear
are mere decorations of self.
The flesh can lie
but the soul speaks truth!

Too little rain for way too long,
ground so dry that it's just wrong.
Crops of dead from moisture's dearth.
What led to this drought's arid birth?

I've never seen it near this dry,
all the clouds have just passed by.
What used to be broad roiling rivers
reduced to narrow water slivers.

Cattle gone 'cause pasture's dead.
There's naught to raise up in their stead.
Many brooks are now bone dry,
trees now wilt prepared to die.

Oh unknown poet

You can't survive
in a fire like chestnuts
such as this

nor can you ever survive
in waters with crocodiles

so I suggest
before you rebuff
remain unknown
tis okay for some

but the one you rebuff
is that iron
which can repair the bruise

so don't as being unknown accuse
but make proper use.

I have been brazened
over a period of time
I knew no poetry
neither rhythm nor rhyme
