The Visitor

By: Mary Beth Magee

You visit for a moment,

Accept a breath of hospitality,

Then dash away again.

You share your company briefly.

But in that time, oh,

The magic you bring.

From tiny eggs to instars

To gloriously patterned wing.

I watched you hatch and crawl,

Grow, shed and wriggle.

You change your dress. Your

New look makes me giggle.

You give me joy and delight

With your aerial ballet.

My royal friend, magician,

Harlequin at play,

Dear monarch, share your gift

Of grand, exuberant joy

With all. Give us eyes to

See, and feelings to employ.

You set an example

Of living in the moment.

Let us live so our days

Are likewise spent.

Dash on, my friend,

Your destiny calls.

Send your children my way

When the milkweed grows tall.

Spring Comes

By: Candlewitch

Fields of springy clover

beneath my barefoot toes,

dance-happy feet kick up

a delight everyone knows!

Green, green all around,

a heart full of joys untold

rolling over and over in

nature's paradise hold!

In gardens of my growing hopes

tulips, buttercups and crocus

flourish healthily blossoming,

as Spring comes into focus.

I Want To Hear Your Heart

i want to tell you about my day, every day
every time i talk to jam i wonder
would i have time for him if i had you
would i have time for anyone really?
would i even care? actually, no.
scratch that.
i know i wouldn't.
i want to come home after a long day of swinging snowboards
a really, really fucking long day
and collapse into you.
i want to melt and let your soft fingers trace my rough hands
there are callouses now from screwdrivers
and my hands hurt all day.

we are minuscule

temporary atoms
magnified by eye's magnification
500 times
if we had no eyes
we wouldn't have ever imagined
we had something
that did rise
and
that's no surprise
tis a surmise
500 times magnified
and
we cry out for more size...

Merry Christmas let it be!

Sleigh Bells and Church Chimes...

A man with sandals and flowing robes
was walking in the snow
A sleigh pulled up and Santa said;
“Jesus, where you go?”

Jesus said;
“Why Santa, how do you know my name?”

Santa said;
“I know you, our goals are quite the same”

Jesus says; “I do not see
how gifts, can save at all?”

“You got some, on your birthday
I believe I do recall...”

“Giving shows how much you care
if you sacrifice”

“Santa, some folks think the best one
is the one with the biggest price!”

PASSING SHADOWS

SHADOWS PASSING

In a dark cave I sit
and what I see beyond
is all of the world I know,
I was born blind
to the mystery of existence
prisoner of my own perceptions.
My mind cannot imagine
what it has not known.

Am I the child of a God
or just a shadow
passing through time

What it means to be human

TO BE HUMAN

A day can be a lifetime
a moment an eternity/
we enter this world
fighting to live;
we leave much the same
calling for our mother
to comfort our agony
and tale us away,
All is mystery and uncertainty
our faith begins to wane
and courage fades into fear
But this is what we are born to do';
other footsteps we must follow.
So let's make the days that remain
worthwhile
and live until it is our time.

The Poor's Message to Winter

Dear Mr. Winter:
I'm writing you a message today
With say, a little plea and a quest.
Should you have a visit to pay,
please, be a docile, gentle guest.

It hurts to see your gown a new,
while mine is old - a worn out s**t.
When every year your dress is in hue,
my stained robe's the only to fit.

Unlike your heavy, polished boot,
mine is ripped out, torn off, so old.
My shelves, empty, run out of food,
your clouds, are bestowed, worth of gold.

Small Stories

turquoise makes me laugh
isn't that odd!

I said that out loud once
someone said, "me, too"

I ran

...the end

I yelled, "look out!"
she turned to the window

idioms are hard for novice English speakers
but, it panned out
there was a fawn on the porch

she said the bump on her head didn't hurt too much

...the end

kids are funny

I asked the neighbor hood boys
not to play in the garden
they did anyway
I asked them to not litter
they did anyway

Football more so than Basketball

I hadn't much love for football
or sports in general
I chose Clemson University
as my college in seventy-nine
though I never attended.

Not a clue what I wanted
or where I'd go in life
those Clemson Tigers
was the winningness team
everyone talked about
so it's what I put down
for the yearbook
I never purchase.

Away at college
thin and pregnant
I picked the LA Lakers
for the winningness team
in eighty-six
before giving birth
my first child, a baby boy.

Today I Am Eighteen: A Timeline

five forty five AM. i am awake now.
i lie in bed for two minutes and dread the coming hours
one hour to drive,
ten hours to stand.
in the rentals department at the ski resort
we are not allowed to sit on th counters,
and no seat is provided for those who hand out snowboards.

six fifty AM. my current favorite song comes on the radio.
i let it sink into my chest and settle
i have figured out where i'm supposed to park.
i think.

Thug In A Tux

poetry is a rant all dressed up in
co-ordinated colors and accessories
proper, respectful, no spitting allowed

a thug in a tux

passion, hog tied under a cumberbund
patent leather jack boots, squeaking
tip toes stepping lightly in prancy dances
dissing, with diction and precision,
the hoi polloi's rendition of "how it be"

affected pretensions
honored with sap, and toasted high
while peeping enviously
at the naked and raw rants
of a raging and unkempt belligerent
