1. Nietzsche on the Apollonian and the Dionysian

With those two gods of art, Apollo and Dionysus, we link our recognition that in ... the condition of all plastic art, indeed, as we shall see, an important half of poetry. .... The un-Apollonian character of Dionysian music keeps such an element of ...

STRIKE INTO MADNESS
My words are few
my art barren.
I attack with sudden fury
before the beast awakes
to feed on my flesh
and the sickness comes upon me

I want to stun the soul
bleed the heart
and strike into madness

No it was all you, I thought it was. And now

I have read a great deal of the tome you mention here above, and not knowing...well hardly anything...about the Greek tragedies, or more than the children's stories of the gods mentioned, I cannot fully appreciate this. But it held me to nr. 9. and some I have copied as illustration to certain thoughts of mine.

"For all the very intense life of these dream realities, we nevertheless have the thoroughly disagreeable sense of their illusory quality. At least that is my experience. For their frequency, even normality, I can point to many witnesses and the utterances of poets. Even the philosophical man has the presentiment that this reality in which we live and have our being is an illusion, that under it lies hidden a second quite different reality. And Schopenhauer specifically designates as the trademark of philosophical talent the ability to recognise at certain times that human beings and all things are mere phantoms or dream pictures."

ANN-This has an interesting parallel with the hologram ideas that science and maths are getting close to understanding, the way we perceive reality. Not going into it here.

"Now, just as the philosopher behaves in relation to the reality of existence, so the artistically excitable man behaves in relation to the reality of dreams. He looks at them precisely and with pleasure, for from these pictures he fashions his interpretation of life; from these events he rehearses his life."

Yes much to ponder here, but without your background rather difficult now and then to know those mentioned.
Wouldn't have minded a precis of it all! :)

I had always considered the Apollonian and Dionysian to mirror the Classical and the Romantic. I'm very well acquainted with Nietzsche and I don't really see the madness except I know he ended up that way and with his Nazi sister.

Either way, my tendency is by far leaning in the direction of the Dionysian, the controlled chaos (or the crawling chaos to quote Lovecraft) is sifted meaningfully in most of my work. Perhaps I have more to learn about the nature of the Apollonian and Dionysian and even Nietzsche. Thanks for the thought provoking poem.

Thanks. "Detached"s the word. Not easy.
