REFLECTIVE PLANES

Are we between two facing mirrors
looking left then looking right
at infinite decreasing images
formed by bounced reflected light?

But we can only look one way
as we wave and watch reflections mimic
having no way to be sure
if other ones show the same gimmick

And even in the one direction
the processions cannot all be seen
we can't truly see them all at once
are all those eyes which I see green?

What if each image had, unobserved
some tiny detail not the same
each one not a mere trick of light
rather, a much more complex game.

Perhaps as each wave intersects
it opens a view to other places
each plane a new reality
a door into alternate spaces

Which leads to the final question
that concerns our own perception
which reflection might conceal
the one in which we are all real?

deep, thoughtful and with a mystical side that I am not sure you are fully aware of.

Did you know that it is part of witch-craft mythology that the only way to trap a truly powerful and dangerous witch is to trick her into standing between to facing mirrors?

Whether you knew or not, and even without that aspect, this is a powerful and intriguing poem.

I hope my reading does it some justice, or at least reveals how it sounds to the ears of another accent.

It's a bloody beaut, mate!

I'm gonna lose my rep for rhythm slips if I'm not careful lol. I'd never heard of the witch thing but it does make a strange kind of sense. I was thinking about doors and alternate universes and that type stuff then the infinite number of reflections one sees in parallel mirrors came to mind and this is the result. I'm pleased you took time to read this and also liked it..........stan PS I just saw I repeated a word for end rhyme so here comes edit #1 lol

Whoops there goes another Jet Plane
Leaving contrails across the sky casting shadows on the Plains,
Where lonely poets walk hand in hand.
Shall I look down, or up, because as an Eagle, I can see both lol..
Now I can see properly through those eyes that are true.
Geometric form has come to rescue you, and tells me of a brilliant poem.
Loved it Stan, yours as always Ian.T

PS:- the reflection of you that is true, is the one that shows your right hand on the left, a film I saw was where there were many mirrors and the bady was shot because his right hand that held the gun was on the right ?????? test it LOL

.
There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

I actually try to avoid mirrors as they have an inexplicable tendency to break when I'm around lol. I wonder if the reversed reflection sees us in reverse or as we think we really are? Damn! The more I consider this the worse my headache becomes ..............stan

"for me" the last three stanza's are the cruncher. From now on I will see mirrors in a different light! lol

You have surely given a new dimension to the images mirrored in this write and as Jess has mentioned there is a mystical feel to it too...good reflective write ..as Mand has said you would make those who read this post not just see mirrors in a different light but if i may add..remember you each time they take a look in the mirror ..lol...

"Reflective write" ..lol. I can only see folks remembering me when they look into a cracked mirror though. Thanks for dropping by..........stan

Stan, I know your sense of humor and that it has not cracked. Surely, I would not expect readers of your post when they look in their bedroom mirror..lol..

I thought folks might be getting bored with nature based stuff and were going "Oh shit! another walk in the woods from scribbler " lol. But none of us are all about only one thing so I thought I'd show that even a naturist has thoughts about other things. I'm pleased you like this ...........stan

I liked this over on HS, and thought I would slip in a high five here also. Great writing, my friend!

Strange how it often happens that the poems which one spends a minor amount of time writing are often the best received isn't it? Thanks for the time to drop by here.........stan
