SEASON OF MIRACLES

Introspection fills my mind
on my walk from woods to home this eve
of all the loved ones left behind
leaving me alone to grieve.

Stars appear slowly one by one
I hunch my shoulders from the cold,
another day now come and gone
as both the year and I grow old.

I turn left when I reach the road
my staff resounds on asphalt street
on the final stretch to my abode,
a course I so often repeat.

Each step and pain from my old knee
adds substance to my darkening mood.
Are the best of times over for me?
I limp up hill squinting and brood.

Just beyond this gentle sloping hill
awaits warm hearth and my dear bride
in a home which over looks a rill
with hometown on the other side.

I pause as home comes into view
then look up at now countless stars,
breathe in a bracing breath or two
on a road, for once, devoid of cars.

Home and town are both adorned by light;
greens, reds, yellow even blue
battling a rising moon this night
on a day which I had come to rue.

At once my thoughts desert the past
returning to the now to stay
where peace of mind returns at last
on, this, the eve of Christmas day.

Usually the first star to appear is Venus, the evening star. Then the others join in in order of magnitude. Often one by one but also sometimes in threes and fours. I've seen this happen countless times as dark approaced while sitting in a tree stand at the end of a day's hunt. So open YOUR eyes and observe what's going on around you. Some people are of value to the site for different reasons. I have Always let people know my computer skills are limited so there is no reason for you to act so shocked. I assume by your remark that there is a typo in my edit so I'll check that out ...you know....a typo.. As in "LEAN science..." ". ..............stan PS the miracle referred to in the title was the change in mood wrought by the season's Christmas lights. Suprised you didn't catch that

My comment was ignorant and blind.

Great theme, great timing, and a little nostalgia to lighten the sad parts! You always come up with a winner!

Thank you but you misspelled "weiner" lol.............stan

As you left the cover of the trees I put a healing cloak around your shoulders, then watched you wend your way home.
The warmth of your home guided your ways, and subdued the aches from your limbs, as they always will.
Great write another walk,

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

It's always amazed me how such simple things as festive lights or the smell of bread cooking can bring about an abrupt lightening of mood. These are tiny miracles I know but there are so Many of them lol........stan

I think that I shall memorize one of your poems to recite to my wife on our walks (instead of mine which is the norm). She'll never know the difference and think I've written another masterwork. Bwa ha ha ha I've never tell her. Hee Hee. I'll do anything for a brownie point.

Dear Stan,
I love your poem written in a rhythm of breathing man.
I love the slow contemplative beginning and the end filled with grateful acceptance of small things that are in fact our real life we don't want to miss and we are here to enjoy. I relate to your write very much and see the slow rise of the stars and mocking blinking of decorations and the smell of ginger cookies. Thank you. I plan to use your permission to post your lines. Just need to find a proper image.
