The Undiscovered Pieces

Is it possible to have a separate place for Epics such as Wesley's works and even to incorporate short stories ??
The undiscovered place is becoming topped up with works that should have their own section..
Many a time I have revised stories into a poetic form to fit the poetry label.
This would free up space on the stream..also it would give us more time to read them away from the stream..
Yours Ian.T

As someone who's poems tend to resemble short stories from time to time, this would be extremely helpful and may bring more of an audience.

With yourself in mind and Wesley there are a few that like to write longer pieces and it takes a lot to read them so they would be better as a separate stream..
There are some I changed to poems so they could be read as the originals.. Thanks for your visit and keep writing, Yours Ian.T

a shorter piece this morning, it is floating in the stream as we speak. Much depends on my mood how long or short things are...but i think a seperate stream would be a great idea.

Perhaps Neopoet grows sufficiently a place could be made for stories, however critique of stories is a much longer, more involved process and requires a different quality of reader knowledge to give informed critique.

Epopee, long lyric poetry, as Wesley so admirably addresses, takes up no more space on Neopoet than a haiku. Remember on the Stream only an abbreviated form is offered so it takes up no more space.

My 'Ideas Gallery' suggestion "Lonely Poems" would go a long way to addressing a lack of critique.

Sorry Ian, dead against this suggestion.

Jess

there is another topic in 'Ideas Gallery' in which you are equally obscure. Replies are bound to be rare when you post pseudo-poetic dribble.

Help>Idea Gallery

It is Neopoet's suggestion box.
Check it out, dear Loved, you will see that we pay attention. See the list of all the ideas that have already been implemented. Really, possum, if you got a bit more involved in Neopoet beyond posting and cryptic commenting you would get a lot more from it.

ps. 'possum' is an Aussie form of endearment, not an insult.

I may be wrong but I seem to recall the old Neopoet having a section devoted to short stories. Now as to critiqueing a short story , I think the main thing a story teller wants to know is whether a reader likes his story. Any suggestions beyond that is gravy.

Also there arises the question of whether a story might be poetic prose as opposed to plain prose. An example of a story containing elements of both would be the "Lord of the Rings" stories. (I know, they're not short but they still can be an example).

In my opinion a section devoted to lengthy poems might be worth exploring but the question about that would be determining what constitutes a long poem. I have done a little research on epic poetry in order to find out hoe epic is defined. As far as I can determine any poem can be defined as epic which has epic characteristics one of which is being lengthy..........but there is not Set minimum length lol.......stan

and it was an oft neglected thing. In the age of tablets and e-readers stories are more accessible for online reading. At some time in the future perhaps we could re-introduce it, over my strong objections. We are a poetry site.

Did you really say " the main thing a story teller wants to know is whether a reader likes his story. Any suggestions beyond that is gravy."?!?!?!? You might as well say the only feedback a poet needs is whether the reader liked it or not. Critiquing stories and/or epopee requires a different knowledge and skills set which Wesley alone seems to be prepared to offer at this time, although I'm sure others could.

Epopee is well covered by Wesley's "Storytelling in Verse (sempiternal)" http://www.neopoet.com/node/9839
Wesley could use some support there too. It is a lot of reading for one person to tackle alone.

In short, the answer to this forum is that IT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE! JUST PARTICIPATE IN IT AND SUPPORT WESLEY!

I'm going to repeat that.
