The Shortest Day-Coldest Year

The shortest day of the year
Winter solstice cold icy air
Nibble at my skin
Dec. 21st two thousand ten

It’s cold in the south
Overseas in Europe, mammoth snowfalls
Hundreds of planes grounded
And thousands of people marooned

It’s wet in California
Heavy rains, flood lands
Take over sundry homes, folks wading waters
Cars congested, mired traffic

In the winter chaos
A lunar eclipse spectacular
Captured the minds of countless
Won’t chance again till Dec. 10th 2011

Yes the high today up here near Clemson was about 36. In line 9 you might want to delete "the". This write pretty much sums up the good and bad of the past few weeks" weather.......................scribbler PS is that your child in picture ?

cold for sure. thanks for telling me. I didn't mean to put "the" there.
He is my two year old grand son. the one I posted on neopoet when he was one day old.
he talks in the third person, the first child in my family as I know to do so.
Him and my one year old grand daughter start talking in full sentences before they turn one. Sweetest kids loving and kind though hyper as can be and very active driving us crazy lol.

thanks for the comment that was quick

Happy to write a winter picture in poetry. Glad you find it a joyous reminder. A smile and unconditional love is sometimes what is needed to make a hard day easier to endure.

Glad you enjoyed. the weather seems to be going mad all over. A deep freeze in the south, rain and mudslide cover homes and cars in the west. Mammoth snow fall covering cars in the east, not to mention the thousand stranded in bus station, subways, and airports until after the new year. mad crazy early winter. If I was there I would have written one about cyclones there also. Lol.

I didn't do any celebration, but was good.
