Anger

Anger is genetic disease.
It exists in the wild as an aberration, a mutation.
The great, bull ape grows powerful and develops an angry disposition. He expresses the anger, to his tribe, in conflict with another animal and as is the case always…
always…
he makes a mistake. In the wild nothing makes a mistake and survives. The younger bull, the hunting lioness, the rogue elephant take advantage of those that make mistakes and the result is always…
always…
the same. The bull ape dies. His genes are removed from the pool.
In human society over the past ten thousand years a hideous thing has occurred. Civilization has allowed the angry to survive.
An individual develops the anger gene, genetic aberration, disease and expresses it as the bull ape… a mistake is made, but rather than all around the individual taking advantage, the diseased creature is either incarcerated or worse… tolerated, talked to, admonished.
The gene lives on and spreads until in the 21st century virtually every human on Earth considers anger to be a normal part of the human psyche.
Nature considers it poison and death… man considers it the natural way of things.
Anger is genetic disease.

the gene is rife in all of us. Nature would have stripped us from the gene pool and thereby eliminated the genetic mutation. All we can hope to do is educate each other that we must "temper" the anger with wisdom.
It doesn't happen very often.
There is a lot of anger in my family right now.
Of all the emotions, anger is the only one I utterly deny myself.

With an angry person, which brings out the ugly in me at times. There is anger in my family as well. I deny myself most emotions, so I don't have to feel. Feeling is dangerous for me.

I think the anger being tolerated in society is more a societal thing than genetic. Anger in nature is a useful thing. Two bucks of equal size and strength meet during the rut over an estrous doe. Which gets to pass his stronger genes along? The one which wins the resultant fight. The same thing happens throughout the animal world.

An example of anger being beneficial in man would be a person being attacked by an animal which is clearly better equiped to fight. If his/her escape is cut off then the fight or flight reflex kicks in. The human get a jolt of adrenalin and goes "besrk" against the attacker. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it must work fairy often else why would the reflex be passed on?

But I think your blog isn't really about anger. It's about the amorality which is spreading. If a person kills a bunch of people we all wring our hands and cry "Oh, something must have gone wrong in his childhood!" Then off to the mental hospital where he can be "cured." We blame society for the crime instead of the criminal. And each time such a criminal is allowed to live it sends a signal to all within the society that such behavior is tolerated.....................stan

Your bucks do not feel anger. They feel passion. An emotional response to a difficult situation. Anger causes only one thing... mistakes. Our responses become irrational and nature takes advantage. We die.
Your last paragraph is true however. We protect all beings in our society.
One of the greatest examples is concerning child bearing. Every mother's son and daughter in human society thinks they should have children. They may have heart disease passed to them by the father or a genetic disease such as Huntington's Chorea (my mother's family) or we are congenitally obese, suffer from joint imperfections... any number of reasons that if we were a domesticated animal would preclude breeding, but society says we MUST have children.
I have Huntington's Chorea in my family, I am manic depressive, I suffer from arthritis at an early age... I am often asked "how many children to you have?" Not "do you have children?" It is assumed I have bred. When I respond that I have none I am looked at as some sort of deviant. I chose not to have children because I could not improve the species.
This is common sense that is missed by the masses.
I also have a lethal lack of temper concerning anger. This alone is a viable reason not to have children. Why would create another "problem" individual?
Anthropologists have concluded that anger did not exist save as an abberation in the human species until some 100,000 years ago when we began to play with the concepts of agriculture and became "sedentary" (not lazy, simply stationary). Following this advent we began to protect those among us who carried this mutation until all of us suffer.
Psychologists will tell you anger is natural, an anthropologist will tell you it is not.
When I studied Karate years ago, the very first thing we learned was to leave anger at the door then forget to pick it up on the way out. Anger in a confrontation results in only one thing- we will make a mistake, it will be taken advantage of and we will die.
That is the natural order of things. Humankind is no longer living in the natural world, but in a bubble of society of our own making that propagates undesirable mutations.
Anger is genetic disease.

I know this first hand. My ex-husband is a manic depressive. His father was as well. The family knew this, yet never said a word and kept it a secret. He now has two children (one older than my son) that are autistic and manic depressive. If he had been honest about his illness or at least if his family had, two more children would not be inflicted with these type of issues. Looking at other people's backgrounds and family history, I do believe you are right. Anger is genetic. But you are also a product of how you were raised. Children raised in anger make for angry adults. People do feel a need to reproduce. It seems to be the thing to do or a way of sealing the deal with a significant other etc. Many times it is for the wrong reasons.

So you're saying the" crowded rat syndrome" is passed from one generation to the next as the crowding increases? I can see how that might be so, but if the crowding decreases does the incidence of inherited anger also decrease?
I Do agree that humans are no longer breeding via survival of the fitest. The results of last presidential election clearly demonstrate that over half the people who voted are genetic ly inferior lol.............stan

My father was brilliant, my mother not so much. Our house was filled with love, but they were lousy parents. We can mitigate the anger or enhance it.

of a good parent seems to be different in everyone's eyes. I have three children and know that they are not perfect nor am I. I know I make mistakes and so do they. I don't consider myself a lousy parent but I would never consider myself to be above or better than anyone else. Just like the definition of what is really "NORMAL". Normal is different for everyone. What's normal in my house isn't normal in my parent's. I am a much more liberal individual than they ever were. My parents believed I was direct extension and representation of them, not an individual. I believe my kids are individuals who need an opportunity to explore themselves within safe and appropriate boundaries. I let them go enough and then reel them back in. I am not a smart person by any means, I have a lot of useless knowledge that serves no purpose whatsoever. Like I said, a child raised in anger becomes an angry adult, I know several like that. It is so hard to break the cycle....

Your Genetic blame is at fault, mankind will blame anything except themselves about anger, your own statement of:-
When I studied Karate years ago, the very first thing we learned was to leave anger at the door then forget to pick it up on the way out. Anger in a confrontation results in only one thing- we will make a mistake, it will be taken advantage of and we will die.
That is the natural order of things. Humankind is no longer living in the natural world, but in a bubble of society of our own making that propagates undesirable mutations.
Anger is genetic disease.
To me the first part where you can leave anger and behave in a good way is fine then to leave the bad Genes at the door and forget to pick them up when you leave, lol, I would then encourage all people with a genetic defect to go leave it at that door, it would cure so many illnesses,"Rubbish"
Anger is made by each individual, it is taught in military schools, maybe if they didn't teach so many people anger then the world would gradually be a much better place to live.
Not having children because of a known genetic fault is fine, but come on,thinking that because you can express anger so you cannot think of having children then the human race would die out.
Nothing more to say about this you are stirring my anger gene LOL.
Yours with learned unconditional love, that suppresses all anger genes, Ian.T
PS:- I had a bad gene turn itself on when I was a child and vowed it would never be turned on again, Take care out there...

expound please

when you speak of anger are you excluding, or including, exasperation, annoyance, peturbation, pissy mood,
or are you referring only to tantrumatic behaviors?

Al

We feel as do all living things in their measure. Anger is a loss of control (temper) that results in flawed reasoning. Nature solves this by taking advantage of mistakes... fatal advantage. A pissy mood does not adversely affect reasoning to such an extent that we die. A tantrum is common to all creatures. Rage, in the wild, is not. It is crippling and destructive resulting in the elimination of the beast feeling it. We now protect ourselves from this mitigating result to the point that anger is prevalant throughout all of human society.

That your anger is genetic argument precludes free will don't you? I myself think genetics have little to do with behavior. There Are exceptions to my stand which have been proven but I don't think everybody who becomes angry is a genetic fluke.
But on the off chance they Are, then anger would have to be a successful survival mechanism else why has it become widespread?.............stan

who is studying psychology, focusing on deviant behaviors, anger is not necessarily genetic, it rides with many different things. Some mental disorders, all though they can be passed down, do not necessarily form as a result of something genetic. Life circumstances such as abandonment, prolonged abuse as a child or adult etc can alter the brain chemicals or cause a disorder to form in one's personality. There are many many different causes for anger. Anger seems to have become a way/an excuse for dealing with situations people cannot cope with. Taking out their fears and aggression on innocent parties, people who are helpless and unknowing to their situation seems to be much easier to cope with their instabilities and get their point across. These are individuals who have been left untreated and unrecognized for years and were and are in need of serious help. There are ways to overcome anger without the use of medications, all though in some situations medication is warranted to balance out what cannot be retrained or helped through cognitive or other methods of effective therapy. Finding the right therapist/counselor is also an obstacle but can be achieved if one wishes to change themselves and their circumstances. I am speaking from what I have studied in school and what I have experienced on a personal basis. I hope I didn't offend anyone....

As Al pointed out there are many manifestations and degrees of anger: exasperation, annoyance, peturbation, pissy mood, rage, fury, ire, wrath, resentment, indignation.

Some anger is a powerful force for change, a motivating force to bring about change in unacceptable conditions.

Rage is out of control and often unfocussed. Yes, I think you mean rage.

you are right, Jess. Rage is complete chaos, nothing ever gets solved during a rage, whereas if someone is just plain angry, there is a purpose or reason for that anger and it can bring about positive changes.
