GRANDMA'S ROCKING CHAIR

An ordinary rocking chair
with comfy armrests on each side
finish faded here and there
with seat that's solid, firm and wide.

Way back in her school girl years
she'd rock in it while music played
smiling face un marked by tears,
she'd rock and sing while brown hair swayed.

When marriage came it followed her
to her first home and new husband
and after work that old rocker
kept contentment close to hand.

Later on in midst of night
that chair held her at nursing time.
In her arms there was no need for fright,
she'd rock and hum some nursery rhyme.

And that old chair just kept on going
its years betrayed by wood worn bare;
her time betrayed by gray hair growing
and laugh lines etching here and there.

Now chair and wife bear one more child
son of a son who once rocked there.
His grandma's smile is faint and mild
so much love in one old chair.

I can picture you sitting on the chair as a child trying to fill as much of the chair as possible..
That was then, now I see you out on the porch filling Grandma's seat and rocking the evening away thoughts of all those times gently wafting your dream time, Yours Ian.T

I love this poem. It told a story...and a nice one at that. My dad still had my grandmothers rocking chair. I spent many nights in it with her.

Love and light. Namaste.

yep those old rocking chairs are repositories for a lot of love
