OF OLD TRUCKS AND THINGS

"When will you buy another truck?"
my wife asks each time she gets inside.
Then I reply "With any luck,
this old heap will be my final ride."

She just smiles and rolls her eyes
as I sit down in the driver's side.
This back and forth has no surprise.
My truck wears miles with shambling pride.

It's paint is faded, clear coat is peeled.
My rear has worn the seat to fit.
The floor board dirt's nearly congealed.
There may be fossils beneath it.

There are a few dents here and there
but at least they all are small,
from misjudging a tree somewhere
or not seeing a low stone wall.

It's not as fast as it once was,
but then again neither am I.
If one asks of me the cause,
too many miles have passed us by.

So we'll both just putter right along
each doing the best that we can.
To sell my truck would just seem wrong.
Why not trade in this worn out man?

First of, you're missed with your stuff and comments.

Second, thanks for the smile and the lovely read.
Both the opening and closing stanzas are great and the theme- though might not be original because as I lately acknowledged there is nothing of what we write is original but it is well tackled indeed.
Nothing to suggest. At least at the moment.

Thank you for realizing I've been gone. And you are correct that almost everything has already been written of before. So it's up to us to write of things from new perspectives. Appreciate you dropping by..........stan

Keep the truck it is part of you,
or are you part of it, where you give it life?
There are many things these days that have lost their value.
Your truck and other things will live forever.
Thank you, Yours Ian.T

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

One advantage to driving an old beat up truck is that I don't hesitate driving it through places where a new truck's paint might get scratched lol. Thanks for riding along.................stan

I love the humor and nostalgia in this one. Rhyming is spot on it flows smoothly - love this stanza:

It's pain is faded, clear coat is peeled.
My rear has worn the seat to fit.
The floor board dirt's nearly congeals.
There may be fossils beneath it.

This poem was fun and easy to read! Very good indeed.

Love Mand xxxx

It seems as I age I come to value other old things lol. Glad you got a chuckle and thanks for visiting...........stan
