Fight the Power of the Pound

Fight the Power of the Pound

Where are those kind heroes
whose stories never die,
who gave up wealth or freedom
to fight for you and I.
I’m talking about Mandella,
Luther King, or Nigel Benn,
will I live long enough to ever
see their likes again?

Though my heart is strong and I
may strike for a few years yet, the
feelings I get from today’s people
put social fighters under threat.

The press and their buddies are
sure doing a good right sided job,
though they try to act impartial,
they’re always after a few bob.

If the Left got better coverage
I’m sure we’d win the day.
And maybe we’d able to stop the
right from giving our health away.

Politics is a shady business I’m
sure you’ve heard it said, some
politicians could even be
performing in black arts,
But my politics are not just run
by my overexcited head, those
who care for others must have
a kind heart.

So come out you social leaders
take to the bloody street, convince
the poorer people that they still
could have a worthwhile vote.
Talk about equality to everyone
you meet, fight the right wing idlers
and defeat the power of the pound note

I know you care more for the theme, but when I start reading a rhyming piece but then switch to
unrhymed, I feel a bit disappointed as it tends to read more like prose with breakes. if that intended, it is ok but I thought I'd say it. Thanks for sharing

I love writing with the hidden rhyme, i'm sorry if it makes it difficult. Thanks for reading. Love Roscoe..

Lets sort this title out for a start "FIGTH" I knew what you meant but was it meant ???
Not too keen on these writes as they talk about people that aren't my heroes but that is not for us to say the piece was well written and that it the main point in our comments, take care out there, Yours Ian.T

Just go to edit
and there the first thing you will see is the Title
just delete it
and write in the correct spelling.

This one is particularly effective, avoiding the pitfalls of jargonism and cliche.

Your use of enjambment and internal rhyme leads the reader smoothly through the write. Subtle and elegant. The scansion stumbles a bit for me in places, some suggestions-
