Axiom
the longer, and harder, one tries to defend one's religion,
the more likely one will end up as an apostate.

Yes,
I've seen it countless times. The other way around
as well (atheism).

hey, Richard
I thought it time I entered the fray....state my position on the matter of religious belief... here, there, and everywhere.
I don't want to sit on the sidelines anymore....It is (religion) too ludicrous and pernicious to just sit back and try to ignor.
As for the " other way around" (atheism), I bet the odds are no less than 100 to 1 that that happens compared to those losing their beliefs. This can never become a 50-50 proposition if humans actually do pocess a working rationality.

Religion is cowardice, superstitious crap.
There is no argument. People use religion for comfort without thinking. fuck them. They are stupid.

I concur with your sentiments...except for "they are stupid"....some are not. They just allow supidity to prevail in this particular arena.

Remember John thomas Allen from the earlier Neopoet?
He now has a strong FB presence, he is a highly intelligent liberal Catholic. He has my utmost respect, despite the entirely incompatible belief system.
cheers,
Jess

and I thought the Jesuits were pretty cool too,
until at a recent seminar on the separation of church and state a leading Jesuit said he would go to gaol rather than break Confessional Seal to protect a child from a pederast.

Jess
how minds can manage these incongruities really baffles me! I'd be driven crazy, agonizing over these kinds of mental schisms, probably never sleeping another night until resolved.
but then, I've always contended, smart people can do some really dumb things...and inversly, dumb asses can sometimes do the smart thing!
so the big question.... to suffer fools gladly, or not? I say "fuck 'em" . I don't have that much time.
