CHRISTMAS MORNING

CHRISTMAS MORNING

Train is slow,
Day is dawning-
Feeling low,
Can't stop yawning-
Four o'clock,
And I'm still up:
Christmas morning...

Dark ringed eyes,
Didn't sleep now-
Quick good-byes,
I could weep now-
God, it's cold!
And I'm told
It's Christmas morning...
.
.
.
.

Note:
This one was written early one December morning, in a freezing cold train compartment, on my way home from College, during one of the winter breaks.
Those were the days when, like most other students I knew, I generally travelled by 2nd Class 3-tier, which meant the bogey was unheated and the bunk beds were 3-tiered wooden slats without any cushioning.
It was a 24 hour journey in those days, and less than comfortable, but, as I recall, it was more than just the hard bunk bed and freezing temperatures inside that compartment that had kept me up this particular night....

Psyve, the interlude sounds like a far-off train. Again, you have captured my heart and imagination with your poem, music, voice and song.

82 songs? That's more than enough for a lifetime. I do hope you find that space that is now missing.
Who knows what then will be your song?

Love,
Anna

Glad you liked this one.

The interlude WAS in fact intended to convey that feel... a train's whistle, far away in the foggy cold... so I'm pleased it did.

The "82 songs" reference you see on the Soundclick page does not actually refer to the 80 odd songs I have written. That number simply refers to all the songs I have posted on Soundclick: and there are several VERSIONS of a few that I have posted on the site. I think I have probably posted only about half of my songs till now.

Thank you for listening.

Wishing you and Barry a very Happy Christmas,

Warm regards,

Psyve

I could listen to you sing all day long. As I've said before, you have your own very special sound. This song put me in mind of a Christmas/ Yule, of long ago when I was alone except for my beloved music to keep me company.

always, Cat

the cold, wooden bunks, on a coal-fired train. Surprising to me, it was in black and white! It made me think of Ebeneezer Scrooge, and then of all the people that have no one to go home to. You do have a beautiful voice, and it was very haunting. ~ Gee

There is value to commenting and critique, tell us how you feel about our work.
This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

It was indeed a coal fired engine pulling the train back in those days.

I recall that the winter trips were freezing cold... you were lucky if you got the top bunk to sleep in, coz the air was warmer near the ceiling of the bogey, and the wind that still found its way in thru the cracks in the windows made the lower bunks miserable!

Summer trips were more pleasant, with all the windows open, but by the time we'd reach home, our faces and hands be pretty black from the engine smoke and soot that would also whirl into the compartment.

Thank you for listening to the sung version and I am pleased you liked it too.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas,

Warm regards,

That sounds bone chilling!

Hope the present chill you are experiencing gives way to milder days soon...

Interestingly, I have only seen snow up close once in my life, a few years ago when I was in Modena, Italy on a business trip.I was almost 50 years old before I got to experience that.
