THE LOTUS EATERS

The Lotus Eaters [Euthanasia]

They ate of the seed of the lotus
hues of yellow white and dawn red
scents of eastern spices
gracefully flowing
on a warm Aegean breeze
and into the bliss of forgetfulness
they fell
lost to this world’s dreaming
no thoughts of a Heaven
no fears of a hell
and from a distance
I saw their wanderings
these eaters of the lotus seed
as each began to fade
into a sleep strange
and still
never to wake again.

I have been so busy trying to catch up with my workshop, I have not had the opportunity to read much elsewhere.

I'm caught up now and wanted to see what you were up to. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I grocked this one. It's simple enough on the surface, but I have difficulty placing it in a context I understand.

As always though, the language is gorgeous and as I've mentioned before... you could write me a poem about dishwashing or brushing my teeth and it would still please my ear.

I simply didn't make the connection. Sad how the memory goes. And I just read Percy Jackson too. I was just on the island.

You talk of euthanasia and the Lotus Eaters, (lotophaguses) probably on the Island of Djerba, but we will never know, as the story has never been sorted out and I think it is better left as it is, now as to Wesley wanting a poem or write about, dishwashing or brushing his teeth so that it would please his ear, I shall ask Sparrow to drop in with his wisdom.
Here he is....
That Wesley guy you should have seen.
Looking into my dish washing machine.
I kicked him in the ass and his head was stuck
I thought what the f--- and switched it on.
It cleaned all the muck that his smile portrayed
Can't think how it pleased his ear stuck in there
Out he did pop a gleaming tombstone array.
Then I realised what he did say about an ear
The whirling sound of that machine at play
Reminded his mind that he could now hear
I left him there to drip dry, it would be too hot
As his poetic brain was in turmoil, the poor sot.

Stop now Sparrow enough of this silly writing,
you will bring the wrath of Elves and other things.
It is late, and I have to tidy my Cave, Yours Ian.T
