FALL SHOWER

A gently falling autumn rain
breaking a long dry spell,
bringing life to plants again
as waterways begin to swell.

The days henceforth won't be as warm
nor the woods so sere and dry.
Should the season hold true to form
'fore long peepers won't croak or cry.

Perhaps this front will bring a frost
or at least some cooler days
as the green from leaves is lost
and puddles gain an icy glaze.

Wild flowers of the fall will bloom,
black-eyed susans, asters, and goldenrod.
Fields and roadsides with gold they'll groom
scattered among the deep green sod.

Woods shall soon be cleaned of dust
and the scent of man's intrusion.
Deer now feel first stirs of lust
along with rut's hectic confusion.

We'll grab our hats and dry rain coats
and see what we can spy
in the woods beside that field of oats
before this soft rain passes by.

I'm just glad people realize black-eyed susans didn't mean I beat my wife lol! Always good to hear from you.......stan

As you must know by now, I am an inveterate rhymer. I found this well crafted, and loved the images presented. Being a former hunter, I well know the lure of the woods in Autumn. I don't get out in the woods very often anymore, so this was a good way for me to be there for a few minutes. Thanx, ~ Gee

"black-eyed susans, asters, and goldenrod"

Oh yes how I love their blaze and then ochered gentle colours in the Autumn's last fire of colour from nature, the perfume of the aster, strange and pungent, the flags of golden rod standing tall and the eyes so black of the other mentioned.

You have seen and felt this so well Stan, I love it.

Love to you in your Autumn from Ann in mine.
