Thank you,
when what you gave was not enough
it was enough
that you gave.
It has been fun,
and laughter
and pain.
So long,
farewell
until we meet again.

It was Sergei Eisenstein who said, of the art of film,
"it is the ruthless elimination of the inessential". I have often quoted that in relation to poetry.
This sums that up perfectly. A beautifully succinct and meaningful poem.

I followed the advice, and
I followed the advice, and wanted a poem that just said what I wanted to day, without the needless decoration.
