ALMOST "49": AN APOLOGY

ALMOST "49": AN APOLOGY

You dropped them in their tracks,
Hit them harder than an axe,
Now I realize you did that without tryin'...
It was far, far too late
To save the fallen 48,
But I could stop becomin' "49"!
Oh, I'd hate to be your number "49"...

Saw them fallin' to the floor,
Saw them comin' back for more,
Then I saw them come and stab you from behind-
Saw the hatred in their eyes,
But it made me realize
If I warned you, I'd be branded "49"!
So the Man in the Moon turned blind...

I never heard you weepin'
And I never heard you cryin'
Lord knows I never guessed just how low you were flyin'
Now I see you're hurt as bad as all those people that you had,
And I'd only hurt you more as "49"...
And I couldn't bear to be so unkind...

the poem seems too personal .
"means as you are describing something in your life, with you maybe"
and this is what I felt while reading your poem.

To me it seems that there is some ambiguity in it, as if you are talking about something and I can’t see it in these lines.

Thank you for stopping by to read this.

Most of my poetry / songs are based on personal experience.

Am sorry this one's meaning seems a little unclear to you.

Perhaps it will make a little more sense if you hear the sung version?

I believe you've interpreted V-1 of the song correctly.

The rest of the song suddenly looks at this heart breaker very differently....as a person who can be hurt too...

Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed the sung version.

To answer your question on that, yup, that is me singing and playing the guitar.

Thank you for listening to this.

Thank you for your kind words.

I've been playing the guitar since I was 14 or 15 myself.

"So the man in the moon turned blind." This line as you sing it breaks my heart every time I hear it.

~A

And that line explains the second half of the title of the song.

The Apology bit...

Am pleased it seems to move you.

Thank you for listening and taking the time to respond to this song.

This song is a real heartbreaker. It brought tears to my eyes as your words and voice moved me. Do you have a cd of your music out in the world? I would buy it in a heartbeat. You have your own unique sound which is really something special. I got the impression that this is a love gone festered and wrong song.

always, Cat

Thank you for listening to this one. Am pleased you found it moved you.
You say you "got the impression that this is a love gone festered and wrong song". Perhaps more accurately it is about an attraction that wasn't allowed to become anything more. And about the realisation that this "popular" person was also the object of so much envy and bad feeling by 'suitors' who felt rejected...

On the subject of whether I have a CD of my music out, the answer is: not commercially. But I have burnt CD's for family and friends who care to listen.

Thanks again for listening and for your feedback.
