Of inherited curses

I

From ancient inviolable to taboos
Our people dread spells cast on violators
Weird illnesses and death visit in droves
Even unto the next generations
Matter taken to the realm of spirits
Distortions queried by atom of truth
Electrons are seen in physical forms
Native bullets and spiritual spears fly
From perceived unknown enemy attack
Not an ordinary situation, they say
Go and seek a spiritual solution
I rebuke all the inherited curses
Placed upon this very generation
Our fathers’ letdown end right here with us

II

To stretch the matter a little further
Warfare elevated to realms unknown
The battle is no longer of this world
Put on the supernatural armor
With tongues of fire to confuse the imp
I bind aged old inherited curses
Rendering our kith and kin desolate
Enemies of progress may try so hard
A careful look reveals shady human faces
Superstition breeds crooked thinking
Dream holds the key to unravel a catch
Shadowy reality of daytime play
I hear them say, “You are very lucky
You do not have it in your family”

III

From violent earth bound ghosts of yesterday
To mammy water spirits and witchcraft
You touch the very nerve dreaded by most
Innocent souls crying in their coven
Witches abandoned legendry broomsticks
They fly now in planes, jets and rockets
Retrogressive dark side of native science
With nothing material to show the world
I queried power-claim made for witchcraft
Seeing is believing, I see hatred
Odium has infested the families
The cover-ups for our ineptitude
Claim our failures must come from enemies
Haul all forms of falsehood over the coals

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

This is very heavy but a damn good write, I know that tribal things and witchcraft are sometimes hard, just put a little of the Sugar bits here and there to lighten the write.. Hope you are going to have a great new year, there are now about three or four of you from Nigeria so in poetry you cam become a voice and a teaching point for your people go meet them and join in writing, Yours Ian.T
