Neopoet is rapidly regaining its critical faculties

Thanks, I believe to Beau and Judyanne's critique workshops.

The poem is the poet.

It's not the same as novels, we write truth or silly Pam Ayres nonsense.

I can enjoy nonsense but if we want to invigorate poetry we need to tell the truth, not just make clever play on words.

Especially not be sentimental trite morons.

Dilettante poets who think it is just a hobby like quilt crafting are just time wasters. Art is serious and has changed the world. People who use it as a hobby are useless, they waste their lives and potential because they feel powerless in their lives.

It is one of the tasks that you have taken upon yourself to do, to critique poetry to a high standard.
That you can, is good for Neopoet, and it is a thing we need to hold onto.
I cannot go along with your reason, that what the poet writes, is what the poet is.
The great Bard wrote of Kings and merchants and love I wonder how many of these he was, and was he an English King or Scottish.
Now come on explain this thing you have that what we write is a picture of what we are..
Poetry, as reading or writing, is escapism and is purposely used by those that learn the craft, the rest just try to get away from reality, to talk about many things they cannot do in their own environment.
Though I will say that there are a few that spread their lives out with a pen to let you know who they are, sorry I dribbled this piece out letter by letter with my blow stick, while in my wheelchair in the corner of this madhouse, Yours Ian.T

(shock! horror! I do that sometimes)
but with serious intent.

yes, it is an opinion, but not just an opinion.

One of the things I do is challenge the capitalistic aspects of this world. No, the whole world is NOT capitalistic, that is American solipsism.

You are the epitome of a mad, truthful, insightful poet.

Neopoet will never make millions because we have integrity. I suffer for Andrew and Paul who finance it, but live in dread that they might stop doing so.

Everyone, I mean everyone, buy Premium membership or make contributions.

Else Neopoet, the best poetry site on the web, might die.

in trying really hard to help and improve poets and poetry instead of saying nice things.

Judyanne is the only other one who does it, her technical advice is superb. But even you, Judyanne, don'tt challenge content.

Jess I challenge content, but more so with the attitude that it is all opinion, and all are entitled to their own.

lol – I am a Piscean, I let be, be. We are all at the place we will best learn the lessons we need, and, as the saying goes – I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it’

And as poets critiquing poetry, we should add, ‘as long as you say it well, and I can follow your internal logic’

It is not that I can’t see your side of the debate. lol, that, again, is the curse of being a Piscean (or as Adrian Monk would say, it is a gift, and it is a curse). we more often sit on the fence and thus have a great view of the battlefield. We usually see all sides of an argument, and waft with the wind as the emotion takes us. We are not at all sought out to join the debating team, our minds change as the words blow; for us anything is possible...

lol we are the proverbial wimps :)

Oh, I'm just cranky, sick, feeling inadequate, can't write decent poetry and that is why I am posting all these aggressive blogs.

I'll get over it.

so far I have remained silent as I was given to understand
as some critiques are forever on medication
you tend to pass your personal opinion and expect all including me to admit your calling them liars and shit and what else you feel ... so far I have read you through ages, rarely do you advise like does lady Judy , you take the privilege to preside as King of Poetry …sorry guy …which you are not ,go visit so many other sites 10000 and some REAL poets surpass your vision …you will feel dwarfed more and like to take additional medicine .
I for one am an Actor of Poetry... I see, admire and my brain transforms what my mind’s eye sees and then the comment I polish to make it sound like poetry …you have crushed Neopoet by limiting composition of poems ..how I really wish you advised , corrected poems, instead of sumararily rejecting them only because you are an initial founder .sorry people must appreciate merit and we can that not inherit… wake up towards the realities of life, take me not to be a kid ,born yesterday I have seen many dawns than you can count today.
This is my opinion and your blog is open
Regards as usual..

We make books here, they are special ones , with pockets in and highly decorated, we have made quite a few.
The best paper we have found is from wall paper sample books that is the best wall paper at $40 a roll, the paper is beautiful and strong, we use it for covers and inner decoration.
I will give you the link, I make all the extras like decorative pins and bits with beads and photo's to be on the binding.
Your books will be straight forward journal types with covers as you have said I would love one for the house..
Anne's site is:- cardsbyladyanne here you will find pictures of cards and books plus links to our other bits when they are up and running 100%.
We have swaps with many people in the USA of cards of all types and now we are into the special books..
Take care and talk soon, Yours Ian.T

Back to the original, then edited, subject. Neopoet is a large site but it's not a Huge site. Thus when just a handful of people get a bit lazy in giving truly constructive advice (which Does take time) it becomes rapidly obvious. But then the folks grow weary of Recieving only plaudits, which leads them to realize they're only getting as good as they give so they get cranked back up in giving good advice in hopes of Again receiving it. Or as they say the pendelum swings back.

And when the swing begins its return arc toward giving real help to others, it's great to have shops to help show the way for those who are just beginning to see the real value in giving and receiving Real help............that's all folks lol............stan
