Poets can be selfish buggers

I've heard a lot of whines recently about lack of comments.
I've heard very few about lack of critical feedback.
They are mainly divided between those who are participating in workshops and those who aren't.

There is a small problem there we need to address.
Certainly Neopoet was conceived, designed and perpetuated as a place for poets to find a community where they could actively improve their craft, not just post poems and get compliments, yet we do need to be attentive and supportive to those who for any reason choose not to join workshops.

Actually, there is a catch there. The Stream is officially an ongoing workshop. Just a heads up to everyone, and I'm guiltiest of all here, we need to remember that The Stream is an ongoing poetry critique workshop and spare some of our energies towards it. Especially for newcomers.

cheers
Jess

poets== could be males and females ...no sexual anatomy defines '''poets..''

buggers == guys only with erecting appendages
using it officially or illegally

which women have been naturally denied

you may like to apply your expansive mind.
and to females,in particular be kind...

my first word choice was 'cunts' but then I thought, it really is an aggressively nasty word to most people so then I though 'bastard', but that is merely a child of the universe born outside patriarchal law, so I don't like that. So I said 'bugger' it can apply to male and female as I understand it and is an adequately aggressive swear word for my purposes.

Poets of course is non-gender.

So are we ok on word choice here and can get back to the content? which I understand is challenging for you.

cheers,
Jess

Good blog. It Does seem both types of commentary have fallen off a bit. As the membership grows there are more writers to divide one's attention among. But especially for a new member's 1st submission a writer needs SOME type response just to know he/she is not being over looked. An in depth critique takes time, so if time constraints are preventing critiquing at least say hello to the new-comers...............stan ( PS I'm very pushed for time in the real world at the moment and thus must apologize for my lack of either critique, commentary or even posting)

I wrote the other day a Blog called Poetry, much the same as you have written here, but the response is Zero as usual..
I couldn't give a shit about comments really, but the main thing is for a person to know that one is in a group of poets that have workshops and things going on.
As I said in the Poetry Blog some of the poets in the workshops are on an Ego trip, I am in two workshops at the moment one run by Wesley where I rewrote a piece of many stanzas and am still waiting for the reply from about a month ago, maybe they have finished????
The other workshop I am in is the Japanese one run by Barbara, this one is awaiting some poets to complete the first two parts You and I have completed so we are just waiting for a few of the others???
The fact that we have workshops on going is great and is supposed to be the main aim of this site, and as you said the Stream is an ongoing place for everyone to learn as they receive critique from all that comment.
Figures:- 4 workshops running of ten in each = 40
Poets that are members of Neo = ??????
New poets becoming quite a few.= ?????
Poets that leave for any reason = very few
It is impossible to make anyone comment or take part in the workshops but we must make Neopoet a place where all can learn as you say,
The stream is the starting place and when the comment keep coming in.
If they say my meter is off, in most of my poetry then I would join that workshop if sense prevailed.
So I am of the opinion that the stream is the base of Neopoet site, some like me will venture into a workshop at some time.
This is where the workshops have to be better than they are.
A place to learn and the person running it must be dedicated to that workshop until it is completed.
Your workshop Jess where I learned about meter and your pent up things was an enjoyable place to be but I had a few things here that took priority
So I failed that one.
You could always put up a board some place here, or on profile to say if the person has taken part in a workshop passed or failed lol.
Also commenting on a poem should be recognised, I post on another site the same poems and bits I post here it is a friendly place and each time you post you have a point, once you reach 500 posts you are a Diamond, before that there are other levels to show that you are active, we could do with something to show active members and an incentive to read, comment, post or completing a workshop.
Show the poets that the site is working to some ends,
Yours Ian.T

"Bugger" is British slang for anal sex between men. On the real subject though, I came for critiques and though I intend to take workshops in the future, I post poems pretty regularly, and not for compliments. I'm seeking to make myself a better poet, more precise, more prolific, and stacking up my ability to hit upon imagery and metaphor that is recognized by a larger percentage of readers. I'll try out a workshop and see if that will help, though getting an email back responding to a previous request to get into one and the poem I sent as an example of work in that area have yet to be answered. I also suggest that disrespect to a poet on the board by ANYBODY be banished. Who is here to demoralize a new poet or to put forth the appearance that there is a clique-oriented hierachy that chooses what is read and that workshops are mandatory, especially when communication in them in my experience is terrible. I love the site and am thankful for it but it's becoming unclear whether what is being said here is "how do we do justice in critiquing this large a number of new poets?" or "how do we shut up these annoying new poet pricks that keep complaining?". After all water that doesn't move, quickly grows stagnant.

No disrespect intended to anyone, just my two cents.
