Covered by Flags

Covered by Flags…

Don’t wave your flag in my face,
this vile rag a symbol of our creed.
Remove first the oil stains of disgrace,
causing these young soldiers to bleed.

They lie dead, silent under a coloured cloth,
bringing forth dignity from within a lie.
Material gains hidden by frequent wash,
why do the architects of war never die.

We drape our lions within lamb’s wool,
lay them in temples of highest hypocrisy.
Where we worship an unseen alien like fool,
damning all peaceful thoughts as heresy.

Living in an age of educated communication,
you can’t hide your untruths under the flag.
I watch the reaction of your power’s frustration,
trying to use archaic laws our honesty to gag.

Go from these battlefields, your falsehood created,
let us give these brave soldiers a new cradle.
Carry them clear of death’s glut now quietly abated,
to place them at peace, no flags flying or traded.

Stained through to many centuries..

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Last few words:
I get so angry when i see another young life lost in war, this is not about security. This is the vilest greed..

First of all, I feel I must apologize for not being able to give your poem a clinical critique. I agree with the heart of its contant and feel as strongly on this subject as you do. I feel it is a timely piece and deserves respect and recognition. I feel that greed is the true enemy here and no one should lose their lfe for the greed of any nation. I feel this verse to be very pertinent:

We drape our lions within lamb’s wool,
lay them in temples of highest hypocrisy.
Where we worship an unseen alien like fool,
damning all peaceful thoughts as heresy.

always, Cat

Thank you Cat, it's so very sad when you see young men arrive back home, their coffin covered by the flag of a nation. Especially when they're dying for greed, and the flag only tries to hide this fact. Love Roscoe..

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.
