The Best of Both Worlds

Returned to welcomed awe
on night remembering
when heaven opened wide
to spill a cavelcade of joy
upon a bitter violent world,

gathered at the living tree
graced with sparkling glass,
not severed from its roots
but grasping good rich earth
within a tub of iron-banded cedar,

our children sing of saviour
cleansing sin and bringing life,
and pagan gods far older than the cross
gathering the strength of warming life
in midst of winter for the coming spring,

And you and I, in grace of cross and hammer
give thanks to those we know brought us together
melding faiths both old and new
into a trio of young voices
lifting praise and joy
into the welcoming night.

I wish you joy and peace.
