A VISIT TO IN-LAWS

Our Arts teacher, humble and kind
Married a young beautiful wife
On Sunday, sixteenth September
The year of our Lord, the son

He arranged a visit to the in-laws
To show appreciation and joy
He soaked cassava tubers for six days
And on the seventh, he cleaned them up

The cassava water smelled so bad
The offensive odour was nothing to him
As he cooked and pounded the fufu
Then wrapped it with large plantain leaves

Cassava fufu on the back of his bike
A giant mascot football for world soccer
Rolled off the tandem on the hill of Atamong
The teacher dropped the cycle and ran after

He tried to stop the ball with his leg
Cassava circled left and rolled faster
He ran in front, turned and took a dive
The cassava looped right and rolled on

O! My God, you need to see the expression
On his face that fateful and unforgettable day
When cassava ball veered from the bridge
And dropped into the fast flowing river

He had an agreement with the in-laws
Prepare the soup, I will bring the fufu
So when he was sighted without the stuff
They poured the hot pot of soup on him

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

The farther I read the more I enjoyed this and" getting in the soup" througu no fault of his own is something I can really identify with lol.........stan

failed in spite of his effort to impress the in-laws. The good thing is, he didn't loose his wife. He took everything in good faith. Thanks for the comments and best wishes.
