SKAVANGER

what is offered
the cast aside hearts
wounded like sleeping birds
dissaray feather
the wheels gather the day
spokes turning on the hub
the axis of plans emerging
from laneway shadows
like languid rooms and ghost
curtians leaning from tall
wooden frames

a mouth of extravanagance
a steady home of brick
hauled from the pits
kiln fired and set with
hands that rode open decks
for work

treasures are all about
not just iron rags or hope
its the heartbeat of neighbourhoods
and painted glass of shop keeps
standing at their steps
the gaunt street dogs and wives
with waxed paper dinners in their
baskets and the heavy trams
hauling human freight while
an afternoon sun cascades down
past fire escapes drying laundry

Scavenger hearts plying book romance
and fountian pen tender letters
for those in need of saving

ths hustle of it all
the deal of a day
just another wonderful work
gathered
like hopeful looks
and promise thrown kisses

I am awestruck at your talent and composition! You painted a fantastic landscape of words. I loved it all as I could really "see" this poem. I would love to hear it as spoken word!

always loved the flickers
and books with woven spines
(although I too loved the pulp rags)

Im pleased that you find my poetry
enhancing for your vision
thats what I enjoy about the great works
of past and present
My reading voice sounds like Peter Seeger
the singer I remember my Art College
interviewer was astounded and even more
so then that I had not heard of Pete Seeger
I love now to sing "Little boxes on the hillside"

poetry are ballads to me
I find them appealing
immensely

Thank You Candlewitch
