Mild Rebellion

I pay homage to the music of my youth,
To the decade filled with teenage hang ups
and mild rebellion.

To the heaven of 7inch singles and long players,
The Birdie Song and Jive Bunny,
a disgrace.

 The first  single ever purchased
Gary Numan's Cars,
Second Soft Cell's Tainted Love.

I recall a loathing for New Romantics, due to Mr Le bon
I hate Duran Duran  to this day.
Tolerated Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley had a great voice.
Loved Adam Ant, a genre all his own..

Phil Oakie androgynous and his dancing girls,
Don't you want me ? Song of choice.
Ultravox Vienna another classic, again its the vocal.

Ska music, Tonic trousers and Two Tone,
ah memories of an era long gone,
As is my youth.

Lou,

the 80's new romantic scene was just embarrasing...what with their synths as big as coffins and all that make up and hair!

What was wrong with Jive Bunny and the Birdie Song?...Lol! I bet you danced to them at your school discos!

The poem had a sad reflection about it...which I really liked.

Ultravox is one word by the way.and I would capitalise 'Ant' too.

I enjoyed your journey...good job you didn't diss Depeche Mode or the Pet Shop Boys!

I wrote a song about my favourite bands but never posted it because I doubt many people have heard of many of these bands...but just for you Lou, here it is...let me know how many bands you recognise?

With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth, yet nobody sees me.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

My work is often filled with typos, i know i need to work on that.

As far as the bands you have mentioned, I know of Faderhead, I like Dirtygrrrls/Dirtybois and Electrosluts Extraordinaire.I know of Nitzer Ebb, they're Essex boys aren't they ? like Join the Chant.
I have also heard of Sara Noxx, just know the song Colder, Colder.

Would never dis anyone's musical icons, except anyone who is into Kajagoogoo. lol

LOL
One of those bands that had brief moments of "ah, here we go" in their music, but never quite seemed to get there!

Lou,

I am impressed you know some of these bands (did you google them and then pretend to have heard of them?...Lol).

Nitzer Ebb are indeed Essex boys...seen them play about 40 times so far...they split up a few years back and have now reformed.

Sara Coxx?...I think you mean Sara Noxx...yet another typo!!...Lol!

Kajagoogoo - now there is a name from the past!

Hs,

Another fucking typo , I'm beginning to get a complex. Lol

Cheeky, ive heard of the bands I have mentioned but I'm by no means an expert on them.

Lou,

it looks better with the minor errors corrected.

I will be sending you a CD of these bands and getting you tickets to see Absurd Minds next year...I feel I can get you to loose this unhealthy interest in Red Hot Chilli Peppers & Queens of the Stoneage.

You may want to check out Systema Synthetica...I am told they have an expert song writer and apparently he is quite good looking too!

Lol!

No one can say i'm not open to new music, but ill need an expert to keep me company, if i'm going to a gig lol

But I'm afraid you won't stop me loving the Chilli Peppers though.

I've heard of Systema Synthetica, I find the song writer cheeky.

Lived through the 80's with my daughter. Journey was my favourite, Billy Idol, and Men Without Hats a couple that come to mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5vlj5OEfMc (Survived Gangsta Rap with my son as he was almost a decade younger.. Phew!)

I remember passing notes to my boyfriend in high school, all of it song titles. Somehow there was a song title for everything. lol.

Cool poem and it's cool we get to keep all the music, eh?

I enjoyed this musical ride. I caught the 80's, on and off between travels, but my musical tastes ran somewhat more arcane and eclectic, heavier, heehee.
Takes me back, though.

This poem made an interesting trip down musical memory lane.

My own popular musical roots come from humble beginings...as a child in the mid sixties, I remember listening to music on the local radio station every Sunday during lunch at home with my siblings and my arents ... fast forward to the early seventies, again listening to the radio, but now with pen and paper in hand, trying to figure out lyrics and jot them down, then figuring out the chords for the same ... or as close as possible, from the available pallet of some 10 chords or so that i knew... and then trying to sing the song with accompanyment on my newly acquired guitar, a much maligned instrument whoes every inch of body was covered with the stickers of the time: peace symbol, the love symbol, all sorts of SMILEY (?) symbols... all of which completely killed what little pretences that first guitar of mine had to a TONE... but oh, how very with it i felt then.
My preferences in musicv then ran to : Dylan, Cohen, Cat Stevens, Crossby Stills Nash and Young, Neil Young, Elton John, Bread, the Beatles, the Who....

Thank you for this memory!
