Announcement - Community Guidelines & Advocates Director Role

Dear Members,

The AEC have reviewed the existing Community Guidelines and made some necessary amendments and alterations. These have now been updated and can be found in the usual location within the Help menu.

One significant change I would like to bring to your attention is the increase in AEC term from 3 months to 6 months. This will be in place for the upcoming elections due in the next two weeks.

As you know, we have amended the role of an Advocate to include the Guide role (formally Greeters) and also Moderators of the Wading Pool.

Before we can fully launch the role, we needed a Director of Advocates to push and drive the programme forward and to have an assistant, a Co-Director.

I am thrilled to announce that with immediate effect Chrys (china blue) will be our Director of Advocates and the Co-Director will be Cat (candlewitch)

They have a lot of work ahead of them, but I know they will be up for the challenge.

I hope you will all join me in congratulating both Chrys & Cat.

Regards,

The AEC:
Hooded Stranger (Dan)
Lou
Stan
Gee
Chrys (although she didn't get to vote on this one!!)

I looked forward to reading the community outlines as abridged by the current leadership. I'm always interested in seeing how things change, and by whom.

Chrys and Cat. Two c's go together well but all I got was

"A*cc*ess Denied" when I tried to read the community guidelines.

Anna,

I can see and read the guidelines, but I have editing rights so i should be able to see. I will ask Andrew to look into this immediately...I promise i didn't ban you from reading them. For your benefit and maybe others, here are the guidelines:

Community Guidelines

Find below a few guidelines for all Neopoet members. Please make sure you read them and adhere to them. These guidelines are designed to help enhance your enjoyment of Neopoet.

Neopoet is specifically a workshop style poetry forum and is designed to share your poetry, receive and make critique of the work posted, and more importantly, for you to evolve as a poet.

Neopoet is a democratic, member run community. Elections are made every three months (under review) where you will be able to nominate and vote for members to become the Advocate Elected Committee. These are the individuals who help run and moderate Neopoet on behalf of the members and the trustees. The AEC monitor the comments and postings and will investigate and react when in receipt of a complaint. All complaints should be forwarded direct to the AEC or the trustees. The AEC have their own guidelines for dealing with complaints and these can be found within the help menu, entitled AEC Actions Manual.

Neopoet is not a place for you to post every piece of work you write or have written, but is for you to post the work you are currently working on and require constructive feedback and critique on in order to help improve your work. There is a daily limit of posting one poem per day. This guideline does not apply if you are posting poems in relation to a workshop. There is no limit on workshop postings, although the workshop leader will monitor and advise accordingly.

The blog feature is not a separate entity for you to post poems in order to beat the imposed daily limit. Poems should be posted only in the stream or in a workshop.

The use of the blog feature is for you to post interesting articles and engage others in conversation. There are thousands of things you can do with a blog, but here at Neopoet, we ask, that you refrain from using your blog to post your poetry.

When giving a critique, always consider that the critique should be specific to the poem and not the poet. There is always a writer behind every work posted on Neopoet, so be respectful and take into account the level of critique the author has asked for.

Critique, don’t comment. Neopoet is primarily a workshop environment, where you can expect to receive critique of various levels. We ask that you don’t take harsh feedback to heart and if you feel it appropriate, ask the author of the critique to offer you suggestions if they haven’t already. If you feel you need more assistance, contact one of the mentors who will be willing to support and guide you. (NB: the Mentors programme has not yet been launched, so in the meantime, please seek assistance from the workshop moderators).

Critique is an important feature of Neopoet. Neopoet will not tolerate comments regarding a member’s race, sex, sexual preference, religion, disability or any type of personal derogatory comment aimed at a member. Personal attacks will be dealt with harshly by the AEC. This can be through suspensions or in the event of a serious attack, a permanent ban can be imposed. If you are in receipt of any level of personal attack, you should contact the AEC immediately.

If you wish to become a more active member, please contact the AEC for a list of vacancies within the Neopoet team. Help to build our community. The one thing that sets Neopoet head and shoulders above other poetry sites is our culture. It’s not just about the words; it is also about the people within our community. If you see a member that might need some guidance, offer to assist them. Together we can grow.

Neopoet is forever evolving. If you have any ideas or suggestions for improving Neopoet; please contact a member of the AEC. A list of the AEC and other official positions can be found in the help menu, entitled Neopoet Positions List.

No member of the community, including the AEC can negotiate with an outside source on behalf of Neopoet without first gaining the approval of the trustees.

Any action by a member of Neopoet that brings Neopoet into disrepute will not be tolerated and could end in a permanent ban to the member.

I suppose now the 2nd line in the third paragraph will be amended for the 6-month term ( I think this is a good idea, by the time three months rolls around, the committee is just starting to function as an entity).

And I don't even want to know why the last 2 paragraphs needed to be written, it can't be pretty.

Thanks Dan, I didn't think the community guidelines would be precluded from my view; certainly for sure if the AEC guidelines aren't. LOL.

Hugs to you and yours,
~A

Anna,

I hope the community go for a 6 month term of the AEC. We have done a lot in 3 months but I am still ready to do another 3 months and do more. The AEC guidelines are next, but am not sure I'll have them done in time...but miracles can happen!!

The last two paragraphs...LOL! I don't want to know either!

I have emailed Andrew to make sure everybody can see the community guidelines.

Thanks Anna,

HS

Congratulations! both of you are worthy choices for positions because i am sure many look up to you as ladies who are un-biased and fair...my very best wishes...

raj (sublime_ocean)

...the announcement should have said the 6 months AEC term will be decided upon by the voters during the elections...I seem to have assumed that 6 months is already agreed, which of course it isn't!

Apologies for the slip.

I can't be perfect all the time! LOL!
