(eddy styx:) Dark Moon

Dark Moon

being not fond of moonlight
When I ply my trade
I tend toward the filmy
veil of shadows and
the dark moon mysteries
my excellent night vision
keeps me on target
bringing me to your
irresistible circular stair
where I the candle snuffer
will extinguish your fragile flame
and shed a heartfelt tear
as I witness the fading embers
and the one pure moment
of created dying art

Hmmm...

I may be completely off base here, but I read this as a first person account of a serial killer!

The setting... the preference for moonless nights... the night vision...the loving reference to "snuffing out of the candle"... all point to it for me.

A very interesting take.

I enjoyed this read, dark as it is...

You are very intuitive and spot on in your observations! It was a pleasure to read your review. eddy styx is my alter ego and a serial killer (in dreams.) I look forward to reading your poetry. Both eddy and I thank you for your visitation and review.

Eddy may find a kindred soul in this song I wrote, oh, many years ago.

This one's dark too, in more ways than one...

Maybe I'll post it on these pages some time...

Thank you for the gift of your song! Wow... that was blood curdling and bone chilling, yet tender and haunting! I loved it! I would like to direct you to another member here, who writes dark poetry and songs. I think you would like his work, he is: Hooded Stranger.

Thank you for directing me to Hooded Stranger. He and I are already aquainted. He was kind enough to be one of the first people to welcome me on this site, and comment on my lyrics.

And yes, we share a preference for somewhat dark lyrics...

Glad you enjoyed "Nightmare in Red".

Cheers

I just knew you and Dan would share common interests. I'm so glad that you know each other. Thanks for reading!

Eddy's back. God damn, I didn't realize how much I miss the ruthless, dark-souled SOB

Heehee.

As always, blacker than the night, and delicately ferocious in intensity. It's difficult for anyone to get my jaded hackles rising these days, but Eddy does it consistently.
It's good to have him back.

I'm so glad this piece appealed to your discerning tastes and appetite! I enjoyed reading your review as much as you enjoyed reading the poem. I'm proud to have you as a reader. I always look forward to your exceptional responses.

thank you, eddy

So glad to see you! Yes, both eddy and I are back on course once again and getting stronger with each passing day. My memory, which was impacted by the drugs that they gave me in the emergency room, is improving, too. I hope your holidays are warm with family and rich with love. I wish we lived closer so we could meet Jess, Jon and Lon.

You are so full of life with Eddy at the helm helping you along your way. The moonlight lately has been so bright and full of many things in the air. Eddy is there somewhere hiding out of the light and is ready to jump out again.

Just love ya golden gal and miss talking to you> Happy to see you up and writing and take her easy now.

Love and Light or should I say dark?? lol

Yes, eddy is very fond of his darkness and I love the moon shining bright. We are two opposites, eddy is the other side of my coin. With readers and dear friends like you, it is a great pleasure to post here. Please let me know where ever and when ever I need improvement. I know I can count on you!

Thank you from eddy and love from cat

So very good to see you! I missed you, too. No, I didn't get your e-mails but it is great to know you were thinking of me. I haven't been on my computer much to begin with, since I came home from the hospital. At the hospital they gave me drugs so I wouldn't remember the trauma. My short term memory was most affected. But slowly things are coming back to me. I had to have Steve instruct me on the use of my computer initially, because of memory loss. I have thought about you often and wondered how you are doing. As I said, it is wonderful to see you!

Stand tall, be proud to be who you are, give the world the finger!!!!

What ever would I do without eddy? He makes life so much more interesting, lol. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the return of eddy styx. He will always be with me and I will not hesitate to share him, my "other self." I hope that you aren't too busy with your responsibilities that you don't take time to enjoy yourself.

There is a gentleness in the savagery, no? "A heartfelt tear" Almost like a sacrifice.

Interesting to see the evolution of Eddy.

How are you feeling Cat? I think better. Yes? Life goes on amid the haste and waste, the beautiful terror of life...

~

"The beautiful terror of life"... I really like that as it is most accurate! Yes, eddy has a soul, as you have recognized. I knew I couldn't sneak anything passed your intuitive eyes!
I am doing much better now and healing. I will find out next month if I need to have the ulcer surgically removed. I am hoping not, because it is high risk surgery. Steve only left my side to sleep and work. I am rich in love and friendship. I hope that all is well with you and yours.

Thank you and it is so good to see you! I too believe we all have a darker side, eddy styx is mine. He vents his anger and frustrations through poetry. I am very grateful to have him because he says the things I cannot say and he balances me out.

Cat,

You already know what a fan of Styx I am, so it was a pleasure to read a new one. I hope this will be in the second Styx book.

As expected, he took me down that very dark alley and delivered his fatal blow...albeit with a 'shedded tear'...compassion from Eddy...come on, you are not fooling me with that...he must have had something in his eye! Lol!

Favourite snippet:

where I the candle snuffer
will extinguish your fragile flame

If you hadn't already given it a damn appropriate title I would have suggested 'Candle Snuffer'.

I am glad Eddy is back and back to his devilshly evil self.

Dark, chilling and perfectly evil.

I can't get anything past you, can I? LOL! Thanks for telling me what appealed to you in this piece. As for a second book of Styx? It may be a long while in coming and not without a great deal of hard work. So I guess I better get started...

hi ah i see my comment ere drifted away

my fav line " where I the candle snuffer
will extinguish your fragile flame" brill
and so dark and moody love it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ziggy xxxxxxx

I salute anyone who breaks the rules in the interest of art and great poetry writing just as much as I admire poets who craft meter and verse within the confines of good grammar. Walk the tight rope or jump from it and see if you can fly.

Thanks, I'm rather fond of that line myself. Please let me know when the book of styx arrives, as I hope it should be soon.

I read many murder mysteries about serial killers, none have been so eloquently described as Eddie.
Thank you for sharing him with us!
Sorry to hear you were so ill, hope things improve for you.

you have said to JayCee your short term memory has been affected due to drugs...i hope it wouldnt be for too long.....but when you spin a poem like this one ...it is testimony that your prowess in writing and creativity have not been harmed one bit...
