A PLEA TO FREE THE LAND

Building and structures sprang
Like plants on the fertile soil
In the land of the Great mighty
By-pass bridges provide shortcuts
To where we drill deep for oil
Sidesteps, our ancestors knew not
Yet there was peace and plenty to eat

Billboards, posters, jingles and songs
Declare the benefactor, a worthy go-getter
But behind the swanky smiles on faces
The hearts hid the fear of monstrous beasts
Prowling the land, kidnapping and killing
The atmosphere tense amidst fanfare
True sons of the soil scared to go home

Death to those who rose to speak of rights
A mother raped, lifeless nude body displayed
For all to see, be intimidated and not to try
Like rabbits, we run, tails behind, eyes shot
Into holes for safety till the twist goes away
Our plea is not for our resources misused
But to free the promised land of brigands

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

Too often "progress" is judged by the amount of dirt moved or land cleared. Enjoyed the read.........stan

out of fear, the same group is voted back to power for a second term. Disappearances continue and killing unabated, the plea continues. Thanks for always being there.

Is English your second language? If so, you could have fooled me, every poem is spelled and nuanced perfectly.

This poem in particular contains the best that English offers, and the worst of human behaviour.
The *promised land* is ours to rape or enjoy. One day we may grow up as a species.

Thank you.

yes, English is my second. I have to say this as some one has decided to pick on my short-comings instead of being constructive and helpful. I take his attitude to be either out of immaturity or dark side. Anyway, I have taken it the other way, as something that will help me grow, I am on this site to learn and grow, not to show how good I am . Thank you for your comments and the time. It has been long time since... best wishes.
