WHERE STREAMS FLOW FREE

"WHERE STREAMS FLOW FREE"
Margaret Ann Waddicor may 2011.

Wooded landscapes, trees
where mists caress their leaves
their gentle winds and breeze
sway birds and beasts.

To be bereft of these
what solace sun and heat
no grasses green beneath my feet
no mud
exotic flowers seduce the perfumed air
a shock
the azure turquoise water
oceans edge
green hedges so monotonous
canals
with cormorants egrets alligator threats

tall palms with trunks like elephants
tower their tousled heads
blown wild in milder storms.

The sands their endless aprons, shells
shops where money is the norm
this so called luxury a boon
but no
its all one grand illusion pride and show.

Give me the streams
that gurgle through the hills
the waterfalls, the lakes
the forest live with life that cannot bite (well !)
the fresh free air
and silences, no cars or hoots
save that of owls at night.

The mountains blessed with snow
the sun that glints on diamonds
richly coloured facets
that melted by the sun
ephemeral dreams, pearled heavens
warm wood fires
this is where I Iive
and when it is my time
my life expires.

Style / type:

Just thinking of where I wish to be in the end.

Lovely, Ann. If I had my choice of where I would breathe my last breath...

~

We are whisked off to a Nursing home or some such retreat,
and loll around with others like dolls with broken necks,
our eyes dimmed and our hearing worse,
in a land of silent thoughts,
where we are king or queen,
with no applause.

Some who are lucky are able to hang on in their own places,
unlike the poor dear in Helensburgh, near Glasgow,
who was in a home from the age of 70 -108,
that's a lot of blooming years in a place
where all around you are dying continuously.
Wow, I think if the family who had put her there
I hope they were appropriately embarrassed by that thought!!

Luv to you Anna, and Barry too, Ann.

Ah Jayne, we are where we wish to be within our own minds,
there we can bring to our consciousness
the places we love and where we loved,
the whole of our being steeped in the expanse of visions
and memories that give us air and strength
to see and feel, even though we may be in a situation
uncomfortable and dim, we have it all within.

So do not despair you too can be there, we who are poets
can be anywhere at once. Love to you and wishes for your
keeping your place in your heart.
Ann.

I also prefer the forests to the ocean and for the same reasons. Great imagery through out. Only snag for me was last line. When my life end or when I die is what I would say .Expires seems to not fit in with the matter of fact feeling of the rest of the poem.Just my beginner opinion...........stan

Well.
Expires rhymes with fires
I suppose that's what led my mind to that word
instead of a simpler one,
and the dying out of a fire
gives one the same kind of feeling
when all heat has departed from the body.

I'll die? That seems too abrupt.
And too obvious too
perhaps quite a different ending is needed
without dying, I shall never die
(or at least I shall not know when I am!!-
unless we do?)

Yes the woods and hills,
the meadows and wild flowers.

I too am a beginner having not begun before 2008
writing poetry, its just writing what bubbles out of me;
I admit to being so very ignorant of all the forms
and how we SHOULD write, I only do my own THIING.

Like to have advice and comments
thank you dear fellow nature lover Stan.
