UNCULTURED

The opera's not my cup of tea
look all you want, you won't see me
through those fancy viewing glasses
among the high class lads and lasses

And a fancy debutante's ball?
I guess you know the answer ya'll
ties always seem to choke my neck
and cumberbunds, well what the heck!

A big ol' black stretch limousine
another place I'll not be seen
I like my little pick up truck
even when it gets me stuck

I've never tasted caviar
or visited some lame juice bar
venison's my free range meat
in chili it just can't be beat

Keep for me the simple things
college sports and chicken wings
folks that mean just what they say
and my love's smile at end of day

simple living - can't be beat, enjoyed it and the simple ease of the reading!

living within a suit of difference.
He liked what he was,
nodded in respect and
simply flew . . . away.

I've had this one laying around a while and thought it might be a good poem for a sunny lazy day. I'll check the chil(l)i and see if it needs a bit more L in the mix.................stan

Well, I'm more rounded than I should be, having put on the extra weight of extravagance with opera and caviar, riding in a limo and eating hot dogs smothered with onions & chili (don't like venison) on the way to the greatest show on earth (believe you me, it's no picnic, home where the buffalo roam).

Way to go Southern dude, just be yourself, going about the business of self..... I'll be myself, and we'll all self ourselves to death one way or another (even though Barry and I just purchased a Jack Lalane juicer and drink down the yummy for our tummy: raw spinach, beets, carrots, celery and apple), even my taste buds are smiling.. So the bar is at home and there's nothing left to raise except the Dickens.

:-)

Should you decide to raise a crop of Dickens, be sure you plant late enough to avoid Frost and remember it grows best with a copious amount of bull shit..................stan PS should you run short of this, just ask Jess as he has way more than he needs lol

They all say
You are too simple
Then when I write complicated
They say you are
Fuckin too complicated

Never mind I now
What anyone does bray?
I’m now bloody well celebrated
Unlike you Stan
From complication,
Now to simplification,
None the less
Your styles worth

Impossible to please everybody. As long as your writing pleases you, That is the main thing. For it is ourselves who will live with our poetry in the end...............stan

Love this country song..I went along singing its song. Great words and the visions I got from it. I can still see you with a tux on and a rifle deep in the back of your drawers lol. You can take Sue to the greatest show on earth and have you a grand ole country opera. You will be amazed how good you feel or don't when you leave in that limousine. ps Don't forget to sneak in your flask:)

Nothing to crit just want to say I sang with you on this one

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to buy a camo tux lol. Thank you for visiting and hope you are feeling better..........stan

Caviar's good, just too damned expensive. Opera sucks Big time. Pick-ups rock! So do wings and venison, although I prefer bambi-burgers to chilli!
I don't like the title of your poem, though. Being simple in your life's requirements isn't uncultured by any means. In fact, quite the opposite, and I'd much rather spend time with somone uncluttered by the trapping of so-called sophisticated living than someone stuck on the stupid of being "civilized", lol.
Good poem.

Title refers to the way such as I am viewed by the "upper crust" whose only source of solace is looking down on people who refuse to give in to their way of living. And I doubt I'll ever eat fish eggs or snails lol..........stan

Strange, I thought living was being true to oneself AND experimenting with different music, foods,
clothing, etc.

At my closest friend, Catherine's service (she was cremated) 11 years ago,, (a Southern Lady born in La, reared in Costa Rica and Texas--heavy on the Texan accent though I don't think she ever tried to lose it. I wouldn't since I adored it) there were religious folks--ministers, priests, Buddhists, African Americans, folks from Japan, Korea, India, artists like her, panhandlers she fed, senior senior citizens she taught to paint, as well as youngsters, singers, songwriters, as well as inner city neighbors and friends from world over, writers, social workers, doctors (who had saved her life several times) lawyers we worked for, family and close friends like me. We celebrated her life together, wept together and told stories

If the only folks who come to our funerals, are persons of the same *tastes* so to speak, I think
we will have died estranged from all that life has to offer.

You have apparently assumed I look down on and don't associate with people whose lifestyles are not the same as mine. This poem is simply a statement of how I have chosen to live my life after dabbling in other ways and finding them lacking for myself. Guess lack of writing skills misled you. Thanks for visiting...............stan

LOL
There's absolutely nothing wrong with seeking the new, I've spent my life doing it. Unique people are extremely important in one's life, they are in a large part what gives life that extra depth and variance that makes existance that much more interesting.
But spending my time with someone down-to-earth and honest, or some pathetic thing filled with pseudo-intellectualism and pretensions of grandeur that looks at others like some desease, or some peasant?
No contest.

"to thine own self be true".

However, if you're the same self at 20 as you are at 40 as you are on the death bed, well how much could have happened, although we're the awareness *housed* in a body that is well-known to us and those who know us.

Depth is about testing the water of life.

Hope you're feeling better Jim. I've been rather ill with an uncharacteristic sinus infection/flu, once every few decades.

If you are the same as you were at 20 as you are on your deathbed, you aren't human, lol.
Sorry to hear of your illness, I'll send some light your way. Feel better, Anna, sinus infections BLOW, heehee!
I'm feeling better thanks, I'm just dying a little bit faster than most others, lol.
