FUTURE HISTORY

'Twas over forty years ago
came The Hammer and the snow.
The flying mountain which brought ruin,
freed the wolf, the lion and bruin.

Near a full year of no sunlight
resulted in near total blight.
Of trees and plants a sudden dearth
and famine came to all on earth.

"'Merica" was called this bitter land
ere the glaciers came to hand.
Their conquest still shows no retreat
none ever have enough to eat

I understand why I must hie.
Late winter is when old folk die.
Old I am, so I must leave.
I understand, no need to grieve.

So I go into the frozen waste,
slowly though, no need of haste.
Beasts shall deliver my last rending
forty years past 2012's ending

I feel this catastrophe in my bones. I really liked this write, one suggestion "Of trees and plants a sudden dearth " seems to scan better. Well done.
