whores and artists

you said you wrote
to become popular and i
scratched my head
knowing
that very thing
isn't achievable

with your ego intact
as hard as needles on a porcupine
i suspect your sting wounds

she reminds me of
how classicists took ordinary
and made ugly perfect
how you took her with words
turned her from who she was
to madonna with child
so vividly white
everyone forgot marble is cold

to another poet she is rancid
left out too long
withered and bitter
like the last lemon on the tree

i tell you your reason to write
has nothing to do with fame
less to do with popularity
you are modern day irony
believing misery happens
to those who share beds
with whores and artists

you chose neither
but you've made her
immortal

Love the way you did this and not a thing for me to crit on it. It's use of metaphors and it tells the story oh so well.

Good write here CC sis

Love Mona

Thank you Mona, the vacation has been a bonus for the muse I think

I've been quietly watching and reading your poetry, CC.

I can only say I've met a master artist.

Well that is a very lovely thing to say and I appreciate it but truly I am learning as I go, the poetry is simply me and how I see things but I appreciate your kind words.

Chez, if we were to stop *growing* as humans, poets and women, I think that's when our muse bids us *adieu*.

If we were to read the lives of famous poets, we see their *evolution* as humans....as poets... refining their *art* in the process.

I love the way you see things, how you poeticize them and how they are uniquely *yours*. As I say often enough to sound like a broken record (should find another analogy most young people have never seen one!). All poets (no matter how renown) are subject to their own mediocrity. Once in a while, we do seem to rise above it.

I hear it in my head but sometimes I know the flow is off, this one seemed to write itself. Doesn't happen often enough though.

That is so sweet of you, am helping Jess with his Shark Pool and it's my first time at teaching so a little nervous but giving it my best shot. I am still learning my own styles too so I will accept help from anyone too :) Thank you for stopping by.

ur a beautiful poet
Rather than a wonderful poet,

'''''''Last night the crumpled bed sheet
Indicated the sojourn
You undertook
In the middle
Of a stark helpless,
Lonely night,
As you braved the surf alone ..........

just a creative thought
jess may not so appreciate
it ain't any poetry of his stature

loved

Creative thoughts are what poetry is based upon so don't stop doing those and Jess is a poet who like myself tends to see the starkness and raw parts of life but there is room in all poetry for the beauty and softness that you write too. :)

Thanks you make me smile

All my living while,
Did or still have I smiled,
As time passed me by
And
Tis time you make me recall,
That once I was a poet after all.

Not that I'm no more,
But the naturalness of my poetry,
Very few adore
Now what of that
Can I say anymore?

Yes Anna is right.
This has the ingredients,
the flavours that tell us
that more great things will come too,

the clear and mysterious
sandwiched
to make an entertaining puzzle
for the brain.
Yes just right balance.

How do I even begin to comment on this social commentary of today's "online poet", today's "E-Blogger"?
Just a new way to slip lines inside a larger audience in order to E-Bed an E-whore.

Yikes.

a little fodder for the paper shredder?

disclaimer: no trees were harmed in the making of this poem

Thanks for the chuckles U2

The lines that make this poem stand out, for me, are:

to another poet she is rancid
left out too long
withered and bitter
like the last lemon on the tree

i tell you your reason to write
has nothing to do with fame
less to do with popularity
you are modern day irony
believing misery happens
to those who share beds
with whores and artists

your phrasing and metaphors are stunning. My niece writes poetry because I do and she tries to copy my style. Her reason to write is because she thinks it will make her popular and she feels it is romantic. It is unfortunate that there are so many people like this that make a mockery of the art.

I have no suggestions, just appreciation for the work.

I have to tell you, your title reeled me in! LOL!

always, Cat (except when I'm eddy!)

Hero worship that's what they enjoy, I think even Bukowski as much as he detested people actually enjoyed the infamy, this person is no different yet in real life he is pretty normal lol...of course he'll grow up and get over it because he's studying to be a lawyer haha

ah yes, nothing of beauty either sculpted, written, painted or drawn stay in it's pristine state as day go by.but a poet, especially on line dies a little faster, lost in the shuffle. Buried amongst the other million outlets in the electronic read about that is the internet, but I will never believe a great write such as this would ever in your own words:
withered and bitter
like the last lemon on the tree

only ripened and sweeten like a perfectly grown golden delicious apple. Love your work!

Thank you for the comments, we all wither online I think, just hoping one day we may see the printed works but some of us only think popular is important. I've met a few of those sadly, they make good poetry :)

What can I say that has not already been said about this masterpiece. You have a great talent and if you have not put together a book yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR????? I read your work and mine falls to a lower rung immediately and not in envy but in respect. You are a true poet my friend. I truly mean that. Congrats on this outstanding piece.

I've often thought about sending stuff out, but I truly write because I must, the fact that people enjoy it and get something out of it still is amazing to me. It is a dream to one day see it published but I'm not holding my breath, most things a poet writes becomes so personal we tend to nurture it like a baby and I hate rejection just like anyone else :P One day maybe...

One day is today - I am in 7 books and 2 Anthologies and not the ones you have to buy yourself. Made one of the top poets 2 years in a row with Cynic Magazine and that was with my smart ass poems. If I can do this you can do this. Just read the poems already published by whatever publication you are considering, see if your style fits and then send, send, SEND! There are also many contests out there for best new poet, you send in a manuscript of your best stuff. They run one every year for women 40 and over, it's called The Emily Dickinson contest. She was a genius ya know and quite the smart ass herself. Not in her children poems obviously but in her shorter quips, I love them even wrote one in her honor called Emily Was Here.

Stop hording your talent. It was given to you for a reason, now go out and share it with the world!
(I still love this piece!)

Hi CC,

There must be bookstores, coffee houses, art galleries in Oz where you can read your work. There must be a paper/ezine that accepts poetry from the locals. Though I got my start on line, I found many venues in the Cleveland area. I haven't done any local readings for a couple of years; my (state/city) stuff is still published locally. I submit poems that fill that criteria.

Besides, nothing is as nerve-wracking and as fulfilling than to know you really have *connected* with your audience. And some of it is just bringing the *right* poems for the *evenings flavour*.
You also recognize polite applause, should you be its recipient... and you can't fool an audience of accomplished poets. In this I am fortunate to live here, the socio-political economics of this area how are horrid so it gives me much fodder for my politically-inspired poems..

Also if you have a degree, you could teach poetry, and you can be part of the academia's poetry/literary circles. We have many readings here from poets world over at CWRU, CSU,
etc. There's also a yahoo group just for Ohio and local, statewide events.

No one likes rejection, but then again you write a poem about rejection letters, emails.

;-)

Thanks Anna, yes there would be lots of stuff I could do, I just don't feel my stuff is good enough, I guess that's the bane of every poet, I will endeavor to look into stuff though. It would be nice, the open mic stuff I've never been good at, I always think others read my stuff better than I do :P

I remember reading this
having met many whores and artists
sitting with coffee and light lunch sifting
through fashion mags and glossy cloth hardcover
in librarys scatterered in my scattered travel
colours form textures
and then the awry aviary wonder of
the laws of attraction and interaction
the celestial cage where we weave
the flight feathers and glitter in striation shades
talking hush or loudly proud the bright eyes
glinting like shards of hungry reason

I have been an artist
slept with more
the soft talc harsh
of town whores
in bedtable lamp shadow
the mezzanine array
of masks all jewelled
and dusky
and eyes pale as a winter
day

this poem awakes the
old jackets and loved
sleeves

the oil based perfumes
shoplifted and pillow
dusted rouge the colour
of ripe peachs at the
five and dime groceteria

the nicotine lacquered
fingertips dancing their
free dance daze

the tranquility of those
artist creations
stilling the most rampant
fever

ecxtasy
rapture
