BOOK OF PROSE

BOOK OF PROSE
© Cyrus Dali Vesuvala

There’s people out there peeping through the window,
There’s people out there listening at the door-
So, grab your Book of Prose
And don’t you curl up close:
Can’t you see that someone’s coming across the floor…

Your Mama might float in through the curtained window,
Your Papa might walk in through that bolted door:
Then, no point my studious frown
When the book I’m holding is upside down:
Don’t think my heart can take this anymore…

Don’t you plan to go home yet?
You know this only makes your mama fret-
And if she finds out, your nights out disappear:
Don’t you get me wrong,
I lack your blind courage, but I love your song:
Help me overcome my doubts and fears…

I guess, being a lyric, the rhyming scheme isn't immediately as clear upon reading this as it probably is when heard as a song.

The first two stanzas are "verses" with a rhyming scheme of A, B, C, C, B, while the last stanza is a "Chorus" withand added first- second line rhyme: i.e. a rhyme scheme of A, A, B, C, C, B.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

Glad you enjoyed it.

You have absolutely nothing to apologise for.
This rhyming scheme format is fairly common in song lyrics, I just didnt realise it might feel unusual in poetry.
Anyway, my thanks once again for taking the time with this one.
