Expender …

I have no need of great monies now
wisdom I find the better value.
To buy the world it won't change
self same green grass sky near blue.

What else is there to buy
when you have it all
You can only grow so fat
or stretch so tall

A better seat at events or games
but are they bought
Or have they been sold to you or
in other words have you been caught

Captured with the self same people
trying to be where you are
Cunning conniving unhappy people
trying so hard to hold a star

Contentment can’t be purchased at cost
it can only ever be felt
A piece of human emotion that is lost
when you put on your money belt

So I challenge all who have great wealth
to describe what I feel now
Sitting writing little stories and verse
no sweat runs from my brow

Explain to me that which buys you peace
if convinced I’ll be so tristful
Surely a gift given with friendship or love
is far more to me the beautiful

I was told once by a young man that all people are inherently evil and I argued the point with him but sometimes there are times when i think he may understand it better than I do but I'd like to believe in hope still, he called it 'bizarre hope' but I called it 'my hope' I like poems that make you think. This one did.

The book dealt with beast things. Title : Daybreak (don't remember the date) . Set in future 100s of years after a nuclear war.............stan

I love this poem, the rhyming was spot on. I love it all but the last three stanzas hit the point home! One of the secrets of happiness is being content! you have captured that well in your poem.

A well crafted poem. (The title was clever too, x spender). I enjoyed the read

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Roscoe and I know I have not visited you and I am here now. I like what you had to say and the closing brang it all two fold for me. It is not of money that brings great peace..it is the love you have in your heart and the friends you hold dear that money or any wealth will never buy..sigh

On this part here I stumble a bit

To buy the world it won't change
self same green grass sky near blue.

Let me try this

To buy the world, it won't change self
same green grass, sky near blue

Let me know if I am off on this one. I just tried to break it up as I read out loud to get the flow and structure going in my head. Nice write anyway friend. I will catch up to you also

Blessings
Mona

I recall a wealthy friend of my father saying he had worried himself half to death making his first million dollars. But then worried even more that someone would take it away. The few times I've had any money I was no happier than most times when I have little. The only minor trip in this poem is that 2nd stanza line lengths are so much shorter than other stanzas. Didn't really bother me but some might think it odd...........stan
