From the Darkness (1979) Religious content

From the Darkness

From the darkness came the light
Shining out so warm and bright
With peace and love and tenderness
And tinkling sounds of happiness.

From the darkness came the caring
All the gifts and the sharing
Came the dreams and summer showers
And the beauty of nature's flowers.

Then from the darkness came the bad
Nameless fear and all things sad
That turned the peace to hate and war
Sowing terror near and far.

From the darkness came the pain
Evil shadows to hurt and maim
Then the murderous fires of hate
Throwing wide it's blood-stained gate.

From the darkness came the swarm
Craven men to bring us harm
Roaring fires that sere the soul
And the demons came into our fold.

Then, from the darkness came a man
Traveling this troubled land
Speaking the words of life
Bringing wisdom to this strife.

So the darkness massed it's might
Demon hordes that rose in flight
Screaming and Hell-bent to kill
Now the trembling earth stood still

From the darkness strode the man
Came he in their path to stand
Said his words and stood his ground
Silence held sway from all around

From the darkness came the light
The power of love shining bright
Reaching out to touch the man
Bursting forth from God's own hand.

From the darkness Satan screamed
Birthing all the nightmare's you have dreamed
And the crashing of demon dead
Filled the people's minds with dread.

From the darkness came the cry
Demon may lose but man shall die
And a shaft of burning hate
Smote the earth to seal it's fate.

From the darkness came the shield
Against the hatred it would not yield
Upon the earth there died but one
For He gave his only begotten son...

I wrote this back in 1979 so it is rather crude.

I think a you could take out a "the" and an "and" here and there, also I found it a bit rough in places(I will let more knowledgeable members help with that). However I found this to be very good overall and perfect for easter.I do have a question though, why did you put the "religious content" warning on it?

"For what is it to die, But to stand in the sun and melt into the wind?"

Yes, it is very rough in spots. I wrote this back in 1979 and had forgotten all about it. I found it this morning looking through my poetry and decided to post it.

As for putting religious content on it, I did that to let people know that if they were anti christian or religion, then they should avoid it. I do not force my beliefs on others and I expect the same respect from them. If they don't like it because it is religious, then they are welcome to avoid it. I will defend my belief if called on it. I prefer to avoid the necessity if possible. I have Jewish, Atheist, Muslim and Pagan friends and we try to respect each others views for the most part.

I appreciate the input. I will be doing some editing on this one soon. It is very amateurish as stands.

I am glad you liked it. It does need a lot of work though. I am very grateful that you will keep it. That is heart warming.

!979..... Were you old enough to even write back then? Just kidding of course. Unless you intended this to be rhyming poem I see no reason to change any of it. Not sure I'd want to change an historical document anyway. There I go again lol. If you want help to make it a rhyming poem let me know and I'll be glad to lend what little help I can................stan

I have poetry dating back to 1966. LOL, I'm an old fart! It already rhymes, but it repeats too much in places and also tends to lose rhythm in others. Funny how you can look back on something and see all the flaws you didn't notice way back then. Any help is always appreciated.

The dark and the light cannot exist without each other.
But I enjoyed your poem Rett.

Without darkness, you can't appreciate the light just as without evil, you wouldn't appreciate the good.
