Vampires of Oil, our friend attacked

Vampires of Oil, our friend attacked.

Our friend.
Our friend.
Mona
is under attack.
American, English and French bombs are tearing apart
her village,
her hospital,
her people.

To protect her people,
with depleted uranium shells
amongst her people.

You heard it on the news.
Protecting democracy,
protecting the Libyan people
by killing and poisoning
the Libyan people.

You heard it on the news,
it must be right.
Protecting the Libyan people.
By killing them and bombing them.

I heard it from a Libyan woman,
our friend,
Mona
distressed, grieved, anguished,
unable to even bring in the dead
because of the bombs
protecting the Libyan people.

I heard a friend,
her voice,
her pain,
the truth.
You know the truth,
if you have the guts to listen.

You know why.
I know why.
We know who owns the news.
even the government,
are owned by
The vampires of oil.

You know,
you've seen
sociopaths,
psychopaths,
corporations,
lieing lieing lieing
in the face of truth.

if not for humanity,
especially not for your comfort,
for goodness,
listen to the truth.

Our friend,
our friend,
is dieing,
piece by piece
with her people
for the vampires of oil.

But they will never surrender,
many will die,
rather than be owned by
the vampires of oil.

Must comment later but I am with you and thinking about Mona Rose also, very much. You have written a very vivid and truthful account of what is going on over there. It is horror to say the least.

Mona

I have stated and argued, what you say about the news and government. Our news is run by our fat arsed lords. All public schoolboy arseholes who have never done anything half honest, they think work something us dirty lot do. We marched against the banks and government on Saturday 500.000 thousand people in London's streets. We should try and have a world march for change. Regards Roscoe....

There is no reason for us to be in Libya. It is a civil war, no threat to us and we are on the wrong side. No way the USA should be involved in this. We get very little oil from Libya, less than 2%.. I keep asking Why the hell are we there. It's not humanitarian. The UN must not have any crooked deals going there. Funny they weren't humanitarian in Rwanda, Darfur or even Iran when they were asking for help. Very very odd. I think something else is going on over this. A bigger plan by the United Nations.

"If all printers were determined not to print anything till they were sure it would offend nobody, there would be very little printed. " Ben Franklin

But seriously, a good place to start is motive. The biggest most evil powers in the world are corporations, not governments or the UN or the World Bank. Corporations control them. Libya might not have much oil, but they have oil, a finite resource that they intend to control to the last drop.

But all that is almost beside the point. We can't champion every cause in the world, let this one where a dear friend and fine poet is directly threatened bring it home. It's unfortunate but true- 10000 deaths in another country = 1000 deaths in another city = 100 deaths in your own city = 10 deaths in your suburb which stilll is less than someone you know.

And the bad guys are us. The USA, France and Britain, and by virtue of being arselickers to America, Australia. It's up to us to stop it.

So let's support our own. Mona is risking her life every day just trying to get to work at the hospital to help save lives. Protest, email our local members, letters to the editor. Individual and collective action does make a difference.

I've seen in my life the end of the vietnam war, the end of apartheid, the beginnings of aboriginal reconciliation and more all brought about by protest.

under the rug of political expediency is the fact that Saudi Arabia was one of the first countries to ask for U.N. intervention in Lybia...just before they invaded - oops, sorry, I meant were 'invited" into, my bad - Bahrain.
Thus ensuring that a) the sh'ia majority in Bahrain cannot take political control and toss the USA military bases off the island, b) Saudi Arabia protects itself from the possibility of sh'ia insurrection supported from a liberated Bahrain, and c) Europe ensures the long-term continued supply of North African Oil.

Have you been hearing the cries for a new Palestinian State? What I find interesting is now Egypt is poised with their "domocratic" revolt to put Hamas in power and are already declaring their will be war with Israel, now we're in Libya under the "pretext" of the United Nations new "Responsibility to protect act" and it seems to me like Israel will be a prime target of the United Nations. Some plan is afoot. There are calls to split Jerusalem. I expect a Palestinian state probably by September and Israel lose the buffer zone leaving them open to attack. No one seems to realize Israel is a Nuclear power and will use any means necessary to protect themselves if they have to. Does anyone else see a big problem developing? Israel is being put on the chopping block by the UN.

See attack as a means to an end? This holds much truth in its words and as poets throughout the ages we obligate ourselves to the bloody truth of it all, somewhat sad that it takes perhaps a poets death to then regale everyone with the fact he spoke only truth to those who never listened...Protest is a great tool if the powers that be acknowledge it without the so-called organised rabble rousers who are designed to just be thugs, when the people rise up as have the Libyan people, don't the big countries know and understand that sometimes a people just has to do it on their own..I didn't see anyone hang around as the statue of Lenin was pulled down in Moscow...seems the powerful pick the small targets to make them bow down and be grateful that the big boys noticed at all...Power to the people.

This is yet another instance of Obama's agenda to bring the Western standard of living down to 3rd world status. He never neglects a chance at doing anything to make the west and the US in particular look bad and hence stir up ill will toward us. We don't even know who these "freedom fighters" are. Hell, to all appearances we are only there to kill people, prolong war, then leave a fanatic dictator in place. More waste of money. More lack of sound judgment.. This can't be for oil. This idiot won't even let us access our own oil, so we must have plenty. I expect this battle is a proxy French battle for North African oil.............stan

for the West, not just the USA. And about ideology. The largest powers in the West, meaning corporations, simply can't abide a left-leaning self-determined country.

I am baffled by Obama's involvement, except that it fits all USA foreign policy for the last century or so, starting in the Philipines.

It is my belief that Obama and his merry men, since they see no way to raise world's standards to those of U.S. have decided that equality can only be achieved by lowering standards of developed countries. His actions have succeeded in angering our closest allies and emboldening our enemies by showing a lack of direction or resolve. He does such things as placing a ban on drilling for oil in the gulf and then encouraging and helping Brazil to do the same thing. Just as an aside, how can a dictator who came into power via coup be considered leftist? This Libyan fiasco is typical of his "leadership". Get involved with no plan, no motive and no goal. The only time war should be waged is all out with a clear vision of the desired results, not this "police action" half war. I just hope our Mona is OK and remains so...............stan

I for one, would be glad for a ban on ALL oil drilling in the gulf, considering the corporations haven't taken good enough care of the oil rigs that are out there. I live in FLORIDA - I don't want to see any more oil wash up on our shores. The oil spill hasn't gone anywhere - it's still out there in the ocean. You just have to love BP's PR attempts with the commercials on the radio acting like everything is back to normal and it's safe to eat the fish again. Acting like they cleaned up the mess when it's actually just still there underneath the surface.

Alaska is still having oil wash up on their shores from the Exxon Valdez - after over 20 years, and considering the Florida spill was worse than that - we won't see the end of this mess for a long time.

In my opinion we need to be doing more research on green energy, but I guess the corporations are unable to make as much money off of solar energy. Limited resources are only going to go up in cost, and in the end that makes them more more money in the long run. Black gold is only going to go up in value.

We;ve been falling behind other developed countries for a long time. Our health care system sucks when compared to other countries. Our health system spends a higher portion of our gdp than any other country but ranks 37 out of 191 countries according to its performance. That's because our health care system is run by the insurance companies - they dictate what kind of care we're allowed to have accoording to how much money each person can afford to pay them. Imagine that right? Yay for the free market - it appears to screw us every chance it gets. :-P http://www.who.int/whr/2000/media_centre/press_release/en/

It is such a secret place, the land of tears. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I agree drilling should not be done unless it can be done safely. What pisses me off Is Obama banning American companies from drilling in gulf then turning around and encouraging Brazillians to drill there and even offer incentives. What a chowder head..................stan

Your reponse jumps all over the place so it is difficult to answer point by point . As a word-crafter surely you could put in a few paragraph breaks and organise your arguments a bit.

"It is my belief that Obama and his merry men, since they see no way to raise world's standards to those of U.S. have decided that equality can only be achieved by lowering standards of developed countries." You sound like a bloody Ayn Randist, and Randism is really minimalist, tunnel vision dumb ideology. Obama is certainly smarter than that. For fucks sake even Bush, though not George W., is smarter than Randism.

With regards to the rest. America has made a practice of interefering in others countries. Sometimes they have been "invited" or "asked for military aid", but who by? You can be bloody sure those requests were only responded to when resources or pro-American ideology were involved and utterly regardless of the majority of the population in those countries.

Oil drilling. Well, wilderness preservation has its merits, oil is a non-renewable resource and alternatives need to be found. This point is not a yes/no black/white one, but going to war for it sucks shit.

Regarding the situation in Lybia, rather than relying on information from the oil-owned media, why not listen to someone you know who lives there? Mona, one of our own. They love Ghaddafi and all he has done for their country. MOST ESPECIALLY MAINTAINING INDEPENDANCE FROM AMERICAN INTERVENTION. That, beyond even oil, is probably why America has jumped in.

The one thing we agree on is that America should certainly not be there.

Finally I am perplexed by your form of government, where your elected leader does not have power in congress, that can't happen here, we vote for the party and the party leader becomes PM. So you can blame Obama for everything a Republican congress does? WTF?

Libya is about as much a true socialist state as China is a true communist state. Both are in reality states run by a few elite for their own advancement. Both much closer to being fascist than anything else they may purport to be.

Soros backed Cas Sunstein's wife to get the "responsibility to protect act" passed by the United Nations. If you follow news (both here and abroad) you will see a pattern emerging. Hamas is being backed by the United Nations and of over 700 resolutions by the United Nations, 460 plus have been against Israel for protecting themselves. Now there is a push for a Palestinian state by the UN and In Egypt and the other countries where Hamas etc is being backed by them, the cry is to destroy Egypt. Tell me why the United Nations is sanctioning the destruction of an entire race of people?

Israel became a state circa 1030 B.C., more than two millennia before Islam came into being and Arabs from Israel first began to be called "Palestinians" in 1967 by Yasser Arafat and other Arab leaders, two decades after modern Israeli statehood.

Ghaddafi is a proven and self confessed terrorist who has never hesitated to kill women, children, or any who stand in his way. I guess you must be a believer in Michael Moore who thinks anything America does is wrong on the simple basis that we do it. I don't recall hearing any Australians complaining when America intervened with Japanese expansion in the second world war. As to our form of government, it isn't perfect but the separation of powers provides for a check and balance system. And by the way, the Senate and white house are controlled by liberals not Republicans. In fact up until the last mid term elections both the house and senate were controlled by democrats. I blame Obama for his radical ideologies. Our form of government is a bit more immune to mob rule than the form in Britain and Australia where governance can change at the flip of a switch it seems. But both forms are far superior to a tribal dictatorship which exports terrorism as in Libya. But if it were up to me we would not have become involved there and if we had the involvement would not have stopped short of ridding the world of the mad man who rules that country and the establishment of a representative form of government. If a war is worth fighting, it is worth fighting to an acceptable conclusion. i know we disagree on much of this and neither is likely to change the other's opinion, so maybe best we just agree to disagree and get on back to writing as well as we can.................stan PS almost forgot the oil. I see oil as a stop gap measure on the way to renewable energy sources, if for no other reason than that oil has too many other uses to go around burning it.

and where exactly did I call anybody a liar ? There is no way either of us is going to change the other person's opinion so what say we end this here with us both wishing Mona the best................stan

that in the past Ghadaffi has indeed sponsored terrorism. He is in fact a dictator, and as such, I for one have little sympathy or respect for him.
He is also a leftist, one might even say a socialist, dictator. While it is true that the lion's share of oil revenue has gone into his and his family's pockets, the fact is that millions of Lybians have had their lives improved under his rule, with literacy, education, enough food, water and better living standards. Unfortunately, they have given up things like freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly and protest in the process. Even so, it is telling that those now declaring themselves in open rebellion have not been able to oust him, even with the help of Nato air power. Even disctators need the support of the people, if they are to survive. Tunisia and Egypt show us this, so I question just how many Lybians really oppose Ghadaffi.
Read my previous comment here: those are imo the real reasons for the Lybian situation: business as usual, in the sphere of international politics.
I simply hope Lybia resolves the situation quickly, and that our friend Mona is all right, and returns to us soon.

It almost defines the USA and its history. The Native Americans, English, Spanish in the Philipines (USA's first Vietnam), Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan to name a very few, the USA has virtually been continually at war for a century and it's economy depends on it.

Combine that with a media that is a travesty of objectivity and honesty and only a very few Americans can have a valid opinion on anything outside the USA.

It's true in many countries but most extreme in the USA where the media pretends to be free but is owned by corporations. How many people get their information from Fox News and actually believe that crap?

Even Jim, who is clearly a free thinker and well-informed said "He is also a leftist, one might even say a socialist, dictator." So what is wrong with being a leftist? I would sure as hell rather live in a country with a strong leftist tradition, like Australia, where health and education is free to all, than a "free" rightist country like America where the poor can't get adequate health or education except by joining the military.

We don't know what is happening in Libya from the media. The truth comes from the people and I have done my best to express it in this poem.

I find it interesting that you make the assumption that my characterization of Ghadaffi as a "leftist" is in any way derogatory. I would respectfully point out that this in iteslf shows a clear political bias on your part.

In fact I place no inherent value on any political viewpoint, "right" or "left". My opinion is that both sides of that political fence have valid points and good ideas, and all of these should be considered and utilized, to the benefit of all.

You also make the assumption that all americans hate. This is simply and manifestly untrue. Some do hate, as citizens in all nations, including your own, have the right to do. But the vast majority choose not to.

You also appear to identify american citizens with the actions of their government. I would have thought that Stan's previous comments in this discussion would have disabused you of this idea. His view on our participation in the intervention in Lybia is one that I, and a great number of other americans, share, although I disagree with his opinion of our current administration.

I agree with you, there are things wrong with the USA, in particular with education and health care. And we are currently experiencing a growing political war between right and left in this country that imo is one of those huge paradigm shifts in society and culture that our nation periodically suffers through. I believe that ultimately, the right will lose this conflict, although currently they are winning some battles.

Improving these things in the USA is an ongoing process, in the midst of this conflict. But your statement that the only way for the poor to get these things is by joining the military is completely incorrect. That is ONE way to do it.

I think it boils down to what kinds of freedoms our respective societies believe are important. We in the USA believe in freedom OF - thought, speech, assembly, choice, etc., while Austrailia, while believing in the same things in general, also believes in freedoms FROM - ignorance, poverty, sickness - if you take my meaning. I make no judgement here, I merely point out the differences as I perceive them.

Regarding Lybia, This what we know about what is happening:

1) Segements of society have risen to violently oppose the current government.
2) The current government is defending itself against this rebellion with violence.
3) The U.N. Security Council has voted to intervene in the conflict, ostensibly to minimize "civilian" casualties, but in reality to aid the rebels.
4) The USA is one of many participants in this intervention.
5) People are dying as a result.

I submit that everything else postulated by any media source is mere speculation or propaganda.

I would also point out that it was in fact France that was the first nation to actively participate militarily, that Saudi Arabia was the first nation to call for intervention, for reasons I gave previously, and that the USA has in fact distanced itself from active participation in the intervention, although it is still providing most of the intelligence and some logistical support.

All of this aside, I still think your poem is good, and appropriate..

"I will never believe in a man who attacks another country for their oil while there are starving, homeless, un-educated and can't afford health in his own country.
I will never believe in a man who bans a woman's right to wear what she chooses in her religion. Or a woman (Hilary Clinton) who rationalises it to distract from her own lack of personal empowerment.
I have seen the planes bombing my people with my own eyes and they are not Libyan, they are NATO, they have bombed my university and my hospital"

Talk loudly and long against this completely unjustified foreign intervention and cynically profit and ideology based attack on the Libyan people.

Mona has personally given interviews to the media only to have her words mistranslated in subtitles to give the opposite meaning! The world media is blatantly lying about what is happening there.

I love your heart Jess and the term Vampires of Oil is SO dead on. If we don't come together now and stop this, ALL of this we will have no earth left to battle on. It's time for a revolution on all shores. Not a violent but one of no ore. No more buying of gas, no more. It has got to stop somehow and we are the ones who have to get the word out, the media whores lie, and tuck the truth up their ass behind their preparation H nuggets. I have already started by attacking the press and tabloids, gotta start somewhere. I loved this heartwarming poem but there is NO ONE here that can get the anguish out quite like you.

" I am who I am, say what I say, do what I do. With no apology."

I do not, of course, understand the dialogue, but I can see it is a fragment of an exploded bomb that caused the damage. Were the bomb detonated in the hospital, I'm sure there would be little left to film but rubble.

The effects of war are evident; however, I have been involved in marches against American involvement in Libya.

I am most happy to see you are well. And your loved ones, your friends and family?
