they will say
don't eat spinach
it glows, much greener
than it should
don't make love
unless you cover that sucker
for the babies you make
will be misshapen,
useless lumps
the world will
all feel sorry for
and we will
give them
vacations to
disneyland
and rides on ponies
and fifty years
from now
we'll forget
how the earth shook
the waves rose and

someone will blame god
because it's easy

The world of the poet is insensitive to the 'actual' event, they more over dwell on repercussions and without the poets of the world using their voices to say how it really will be the media could never be relied upon, if they had been open about Chernobyl would the consequences have been any less dramatic than when we first saw children with deformations due to radiation? I don't think so, no I think poets in the main who remain realists need to just tell it like it is regardless. That is what poetic licence and writing is all about. Same as when Nietzsche told everyone 'God is dead' Controversy is alive and healthy.

As i said in Yenti's blog, this is a fair reflection of what is happening and what could happen. We should not wait to see how this plays out, but be out there in front stirring the minds of the weak uncaring primate we've become. Insesitivity is a sheild we hide our fears behind, let us come out from behind our sheild and face this mess we have made. Again i say i stand for and applaud this poem. Regards Roscoe..

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

I've never been a writer who hides behind sensitivities, I write it exactly how I see and feel it at the time, so thank you for seeing that. I appreciate it.

timely and provocative poem.

vexations

Tight and affectively written ... felt it did need
an "and" on the "the waves rose" , and then perhaps
lose the one on the last line, it stands well without it,
just suggestions ... might just be how I'd do it, but it
is very tight now, and affectively effective.

On a side note, content;
I can see what Ian is saying, it's a bit like wishing
something bad on someone, but in this case the
bad's been done, the question is ... will it get even
worse and for how long?

great poem!

Welcome to Neo

Richard

I see that you share the same misgivings as I in my poem of nearly same title. The only difference seems to be in how far into the future we looked. Hard to believe they built reactors so close to sea level..............scribbler

Yes Scribbler, it seems there is no end to the stupidity of people with something as dangerous as uranium with radioactivity...it's always the 'oh it will never happen to me' syndrome that is the scariest of all.

It makes me terrified of a catastrophic ever happening in Florida. We live right between two nuclear plants in central Florida. One in Tampa and one in Orlando - I'd have to leave the state to escape the mess. I can never understand how anyone could possibly think that nuclear energy is a good idea. Look at how long it takes for the leftovers to break down! And the risks! They're just too great.

Ian,
there are already ocean current generators being tested in gulf stream off coast of Florida..............stan

That didn't help my fears any! hahaha lol ;-) My husband is currently working on getting an degree in electrical engineering. He's wanting to do work in the area of green energy. There are too many sources of energy that DON'T create hazardous waste that we're just neglecting. I heard from one of my co-workers that they're talking about building ANOTHER nulcear plant in Florida - that will up our numbers to 6. (Which is totally insane in my opinion.)

I told you so poem. I agree that there will be people who say that this is a little harsh and insensitive work right now, but, I think it is well to keep the focus on what is happening. I mean, for gosh sakes, a little 22 inch cobra missing from a zoo, displaced it in the news headlines! Today's society is very jaded, and constantly needs something new to occupy our minds. Maybe, by making it a controversial [but accurate] poem, enough people will be outraged by the happening, to make sure that it doesn't happen again. With that said, how many people know, that the waste that is disposed of, with a half-life of fifty thousand years, is put into containers that will last only thirty thousand? I guess that they figure that if the human race is still alive then, that they can figure out what to do with it! ~ Gee

There is value to commenting and critique, tell us how you feel about our work.
This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Sometimes in history the only thing that stands up to scrutiny is poetry either spoken or sung, if the modern day press won't relay all the truth then the modern day prophets must be accurate even if it appears harsh.

while we won't deal the nightmare of what Japan is going through, the radioactive material affects us all.
