BEYOND TRAILS

I oft venture where there is no trail
along steep hill sides and rugged ridges
on old legs that are far from hale
I ford lone streams that have no bridges.

Most times I find myself alone,
the mass of mankind far away,
as I travel through these lands unknown
by those with faces pale and grey.

By traveling where the paths are rare
I've sometimes tripped and even fell
snagged by the vines and stump holes there
while walking beyond the peaceful dell.

So should you choose to walk with me
through this wild uncharted land
the cost of trail breaking is not free,
it's often all that I can stand.

Stan i think i'd love to walk with you and converse, i can imagine from your poems the walks you take and it sounds idealic, and free at the point of usage. Your poem' s as always makes great reading, i'm no expert on publishing but surely there's a niche for your poems. A travel magazine perhaps, even locally where you walk? just a thought. Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

Too bad our feet can't carry us through the net to visit one another in person lol. i fear the niche for my poems may be in the past. Thank you for the kind words................stan

I have written a few other poems comparing life to a trail or path. Perhaps you are recalling one of them. Better to doubt your own sanity than to be sure of insanity lol............stan

while in Boston I think you were still closer to your home than mine lol. Yes the few inches on a map fool us into thinking 1000 miles is nothing...................stan

I went back and read it two more times. I saw me walking beyond the trails and getting snagged and falling by the vines and dead falls there.
