Aleksander Blok

Arise, and walk along these streets,
breathe and partake of the dregs
of the mighty industrial age;
paint the colours of its appeal -

toxic fumes that light the path
to days only just imagined.

Parted lips bare wisdom,
shatter the silence that shackles;
within parched throat, sealed
sounds peal from the belfry -

tender whispers caress
each unknown orphaned heart.

Lift high the banner brave;
let the bitter winds bite
lash fierce its tattered frame,
light gapes through its holes-

release the soul's query:
How can one forgive what is forgotten?

Illumine the dim horizon;
extricate each sole from bog and mire.
Grab the morning call,
Borrow its voice if you must -

Stir up the spirit from slumber;
the darkness of night will not prevail.

CB,

you had me thinking about Aleksander Blok after reading your piece. I had forgotten about him and it was good to remember him and I have just spent about an hour reading up on him again.

What is the viewpoint of your poem? I am assuming you were almost writing this as if you were in his shoes?

I enjoyed the images this piece threw at me and I really enjoyed the two line stanza's between each verse, I found them perfectly placed and gave the poem a gentle pace with these little breaks in them.

favourite verse:

Lift high the banner brave;
let the bitter winds bite
lash fierce its tattered frame,
light gapes through its holes

I could feel this banner being thrashed in the harsh wind.

A really well thought out piece and is the most enjoyable poem i have read on new Neo thus far.

regards,

HS

With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth, yet nobody sees me.

with much gratitude for interacting with my little poem and returning with such substantial feedback. It's viewpoint was mixed (something akin to stream of consciousness) melding the 'persona' of Mr. Blok and that of humanist standpoint, as if his views were alive and replicated in others. Thanks also for telling me how the 2-line stanzas worked out, really glad they did not obstruct the flow of the poem. And as for that verse - we all have in our lifetimes banners that are tested in the winds of trends of our day. If we don't stand up for valued principles, no one else will. Your last line is quite humbling and a mandate for us all to continue to strive toward poetry breathes and lives excellence of articulate expression. My sincerest thanks, CB

CB,

thanks for explaining the viewpoint and I can really go with the 'stream of consciousness'...that makes perfect sense and actually adds more depth to my enjoyment of this read.

I have saved this poem on my browser as I am finding that I want to keep reading it...and each time a little something else jumps out at me.

A truly wonderful piece,

kindest regards,

HS
