I hate rules

Bu some people are posting several poems every day. This says something about them, that hey don't care about feedback or working on their work.

I would like to ignore them but there is always the nagging feeling I will miss a gem.

Remember that one-a-day was voted in democratically on the old Neopoet and I would expect it to come up again.

There is a more insidious problem with no posting limit, people have been known to join, dump 50 or more poems in the Stream then never return, flooding like that really obstructs the workshop process and reading pleasure.

Actually that was the same reason pissed me off too
I’m very busy lady in my life and would like to catch up with all poems here around ,but I guess that is IMPOSSIBLE.

good point my friend.

Hopefully this forum will be read by more poets.

So I should stop posting on a more or less daily basis ?

We haven't come up far enough to re-write the code blocking someone from posting more than that as yet, but will as soon as we can. Right now we are relying on people's honor to adhere to the rule.

There should be no abuse of the person doing it. They should be informed and if continued, then reported so an official warning can be issued.

We would appreciate everyone's cooperation in this. Thank you.

I understand that if one feels he/she must post more than 1 poem per day, there is no limit to number of poems one may post on blogs.................scribbler

This applies to Stream only. Workshops are not to be used for random posting though. They are for workshop classes and hopefully, we will have them up an running soon. The forum and blogs are not covered in the 24 hour rule.

I am SO happy to be back. I love Neopoet:))) I have not posted anything, yet, since I just got back, but will adherre to the one per 24 hour rule. Is there a way that we can retrieve our poems that were here, before the crash. I also had a computer crash and lost a bunch of work:((( Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

Happy to be here!

I forgot my old signature so this one will have to do for a while!

I am just happy that the site is up and running again.I am a little sad that I have lost some of my old posts from before but I am looking forward to reading and posting once again.

Just looked at 'all site activity' and received quite a shock. The one a day rule has been defiled!

Hopefully the *guide leadership* will be up and running, perhaps before a poet can post, the guide will remind them of Neopoet's guidelines.

I'm hoping it's ignorance and not willful disregard.

difference, being the second line of defence. The first would the long agreement list when we first sign up and that annoying pop up that 'should' remind us about our posting behaviour.

I am with you about wilful disregard - that is just not on.

one a day suits me
just fine,
and I don't think we even have to vote on it.

I would go farther: new members that refuse to edit, or reply to comments and criticism, should be seriously considered for removal from the site. This site is shortly, I suspect, going to become very large very quickly, and it is in our best intrests, imo, that we burn the chaff to let the new growth come up.

Or

We could have an automated cleaning process if we do not enforce one-a-day through code. It would go something like:
"If a new member has poems
and none of those poems are being actively edited
and the new member has posted no comments or replies to the comments of others, then flag the new member for "dumping",
send them a warning to respond within a certain time frame,
then if they do not answer within that time frame, erase the poems and the new member."

Or

Perhaps new members should be able to post several poems at once, just one time? To give others a feel for their work.

Or

Maybe allow new members - or all members - to post their old work in a special area, only accessible through their own page, so that they are seen only by those who actively seek their work?

Or

Allow off-site links to the poet's own archives. I like this idea, myself.

But...one-a-day is the easiest and best solution, I think.

You can no longer post more than one a day. The problem of critique remains. I suggest a two-fold approach. We are already working at building the Advocates Team back up. Advocates lead by example, they give good critique and they critique poor critique, Yes, that is allowed and valid, especially in light of the second strategy.

Members must post at least 2 critiques on other's work for each poem of their own they post, That's where the Advocates come in. "Very nice, dear" or "this is shit" simply don't cut it as critique and won't count towards the critique quota.

and so far have not had a need to review that strategy. It is my experience that if I act in a reasonable way (sort of like Jesus telling us to treat others as we would want to be treated) then few are hurt or take offense. I should also admit that I could never write poetry at a rate that could annoy. In fact I have been forced to resort to resurrecting some older pieces (such as Angel) in order to have anything to post at times.

I read the rules. As I expected, I learned nothing I was not already aware of.
