And So, It Came to Pass...

On the morning after election
I turned on my T.V.
Imagine my dejection
The headlines said to me

Now that our party's won
We shall waste no time
So, listen up everyone
You will follow party-lines

You will pray before each meal
No more cars, you'll take the bus
The rich will get tax deals
Moral rules are made by us

Same sex-marriage is a no-no
Everyone gets a gun
Dirty tricks and low blows
Are for politician's fun

God and country are the rule
Football players will not kneel
Pray before each day at school
No matter how you feel

All human life is precious, see
Abortions are no-go
Except for political refugees
They aren't like us you know

Someday we will rule the world
Just give us a little time
Let our country's flag unfurl
You will turn into our kind

If not, there will be consequences
We will stomp you down
No more freedom references
Said the orange-haired clown

it is relevant to the poem and catches my interest. The beginning again raises my interest to read further and the end was no surprise yet bold in it's own right.
I wish sometimes though, there was one place politics wouldn't be found and would like it to be poetry, Cleaning up after a pumpkin headed dip shit is not rewarding at all. It's humiliating!
I can sense in every fibre of people the negativity and selfishness of the unaware...don't want to rant here, but people have lost their humanity on so many levels.

exactly why, I write political poetry. So that if maybe one person reads it and starts watching closely the people that we put in office, or maybe even gets out to vote. I think as writers, we have a responsibility to write about the injustices and tilt against windmills. I don't make it my entire writing career; just every now and then...
Thank you for the read and comments. ~ Geezer.

you saw a girl's teeth bashed in with a baseball bat over politics first hand, when you hear that sickening crunch and hollow thok, you might advocate less of fuelling the fire. When your anger escalates to the sound and recoil of a single shot that takes someone's life, you might reconsider where humanity lives.

someone tells you that you have to do as they say, or they will hurt you or someone else, you just curl up with a good book and let them take control of your life? I think not! If you don't do anything about it, you will find that your life is not your own, it belongs to whoever writes the rules. You will find that you are just going along with whatever rules they make for you, no matter what you think in private. I don't want anyone to get hurt, but how is it my fault if someone bashes someone in the teeth with a bat, because they have a different opinion about how to live my life? ~ Geezer.

I am really loving the social commentary. Seems this is very powerful with the meter and rhyme you have chosen. Wish I could write like that!

for the high praise. Your writings are of a different nature, [pun intended]. I sometimes wish that I could write like you and Stan
I have contempt for those who are placed in any office and do little or nothing for the people that elected them. I understand the ones that fudge a little and can't do exactly as they said they would, because we have those who oppose anything the other team is trying to do as being wrong. Why can't they get their acts together and compromise, help each other help the rest of us? Because they want the power for themselves! Maybe we should impose term-limits on everyone? What would really help, is if we vote them out of office when we see them doing contrary to our wishes. Voting party lines is a crazy way of voting. Why would anyone vote for a person or party because their father voted for them? Vote for the people who have your interests at heart. Be a true Independent! Thanks for listening. ~ Geez.

I am against more and more government intrusion in our lives. Yes, it's a good thing when the government helps out with making our lives better, with health care, better laws that keep us from being taken advantage of, but when it starts telling us, that we have to behave in ways that are acceptable to it, prayer in schools etc. That is where I draw the line. One of the reasons that we started a new nation, is to guarantee our right to religious freedom, to believe or not believe in a god, and to do as we choose, as long as we do not trample other people's rights. ~ Geezer.

And my muse followed me up there…. Wrote several poems while away. I bring this up as I wrote a six pager agout your subject matter. Don’t know if I’ll ever post it here, perhaps too long for our favorite poetry website. Maybe six or seven people will, eventually read it…. Laughing.

The subject of negative influences in politics is a passionate one. So many believe that their beliefs are “The Way” and that their way is the only way. Extremists fall off the cliff not noticing the cliff has ended. I appreciate you taking the time to write you poem here. We all need to examine, like every day, our far-reaching political beliefs.

So much truth in this write. It amazes me how many are willing to lay down and take their freedoms. Nice job.

Political poetry is also good for raising awareness, but I don't think a poem would have stopped that guy from smashing that girl's face in. It might have just made him more angry. I think there is enough political fuel in our lives in every other media and made a simple statement I wished it didn't involve poetry.
So, instead of trying to understand another person's experience and how they came about with their point of view, I get an inflated response that asks me if I'd rather just curl up with a good book and let someone control my life.
My enemy is violence, and my most recent experience was politically driven. Was it right for me to answer violence with violence? Did I lay down and take my freedom in a righteous way? Was it okay for me to take someone else's freedom?

I hope at least one person here can understand the point I'm trying to make.

that if I can get at least one person to go out there and vote/protest what they feel are impositions on our freedoms, I am glad.
I wish that we didn't have to protest and use poetry or any means to influence them to do it, but if I must, I must. I understand about seeing people hurt because of political arguments. We almost had a Donnybrook at a family gathering earlier this summer, one member of the family on one side of the political fence, punched another in the face, there was blood! It happens. I don't see how you can have a political disagreement these days, without someone getting upset. I guess if you want to keep everyone happy, you don't talk about politics and religion! I am sorry if I took your remarks out of context, didn't mean to upset anyone. ~ Geez.

and quite a common point of view. I don't get upset over such trivial mistakes, but let's say that things sail smoother on an even keel when people choose their words more carefully.
I've written political poetry, but found that my efforts are more effective on a different front. Because of your poem, I'm going back after a respite. A week ago, I thought I would pop in here to relax in my retirement. Your poem reminded me of the ugliness we endure and so made my small complaint.
There's a reason the legion I attended didn't allow conversations about religion and politics. Subject matter concerning race was simply taboo. We didn't need a reason not to talk about that.
Seems by the responses I got on my last poem, it's taboo here, too. Lol

sure, that you are on the right page? LoL While I am pleased that this is thought to be a good poem, I'm not sure that it soars!
I wrote this to try and stir some people to get out and vote and be aware of the things that the candidates advocate, and I hope that I did that! [In case you did mean it], thank you very much! ~ Geez.

I am glad to have brightened your day! I think that many people are going to be surprised at some of the new revelations coming from a recent turn of events. The idol has feet of clay. ~ Geez.
