My Mother

You taught me how to read and write.
You taught me how to voice with might.
You taught me there's no fists to fight.
You taught me truth is the path to right.

You gave me all the strength I need.
All the knowledge required to succeed.
You showed me there's no place for greed.
To show love is how to plant the seed.

You never saw me beg for permission.
You never thought a moment to listen.
You one eyed view to God is your mission.
You duty of care ended with Christen.

I need you to see things from my point of view.
I've been trying for ages now, it's nothing new.
The war that I've fought is not queer or askew.
The war that I've fought is to feel love from you.

welcome to Neopoet, I am very pleased to meet you!

It would seem that your mother needed lessons on how to be a good mother. it isn't easy to live with a religious fanatic. they do tend not to listen to anything that they don't want to hear.
in this line:
(You) one eyed view to God is your mission. replace it with (Your)

my favorite lines are:
I need you to see things from my point of view.
I've been trying for ages now, it's nothing new.
The war that I've fought is not queer or askew.
The war that I've fought is to feel love from you.

maybe you should show her this poem. it might help. it is like holding a mirror up in front of her face. this is only a suggestion as it is always your call.

*hugs, Cat

that as children, we tend to forget that mothers are people too. No excuses about common decency or the expectations that are laid upon the feet of motherhood. It is a fact, that not all mothers are meant to be mothers. Through the things that everyone hears and is taught all their lives, I guess that we expect that if and when you become a parent, [this goes for fathers too], there is some magical transformation that takes place and presto-chango, we become a mythical being, imbued with qualities of people from another world, where everything is beautiful. Well, I guess reality just shot down another theory.
We sometimes get stuck with parents that suck! I think that you recognize that your mother is/was basically a good person, she just doesn't have the ability to parent. Maybe you can save her from herself and for you. Good luck. A good poem that brings into question; What is a good parent? ~ Geezer.
