Eire

The ancient oak spreads
Its limbs across the water and
Speaks to the brown trout
"I have stood for ages watching
As men try to twist the land
To their will
I will always be
When they are gone."

The Raven circles the oak
Alighting upon his arm
"Much feasting we shall see this day.
The earth shall be quenched and our bellies full."
He turns his head to gaze
Upon ranks of warriors
Standing with false pride
They have come
To take what the land would not give
Impetuous children
Don't they know?

As the battle cry rings out
The mist departs
The Hill of Kings stands empty
There will be no blood today
The Raven departs its perch
The Trout circles
The Ancient Oak stands a silent witness
While Erin weeps.

of what the title means, but then again, I am thinking that it is Irish? It kind of sounds like a speech given before a battle. I think it needs to be fleshed out and given in some context. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Thank you for the comment. It is Irish. Erin is one of the many forms of the name of Ireland. I guess you haven't read Thomas Campbell's "The Exile of Erin?" I recommend it.
Forgive me, but I am cutting and pasting this from my response to Obadia:
"My Old One told me of my family history when I was a wee lad. In it he told me how we were descended from Milesius.
Milesius came to Ireland when the Romans took that part of Hispana We come from the O'Neill who are from the original line of Milesius .
But, I digress. Eriu was the Queen of the Danaan. After Milesius defeated the Fir Bolg (Wild Men in Gaeilge), and the Fomorians. He marched on Tara to defeat the Danaan. Upon arriving, prepared for battle, a great mist covered the High Hill of Kings, and when it cleared, the army of Eriu had disapoeared"
I was in service for twenty a two years and never had an officer give a speech before an action about talking trees and ravens. Lol.
Kind regards,
Eoghan

that this was a fantasy tale that was written for a story much like a movie. In it, I would suppose that a speech like this would be given. ~ Geezer.

Sorry Erin is not the name of this particular, it is Eriu (pronounced Air-ooo)

You are most certainly,,, defiantly,,, well, probably,,,,, Irish!
and as such you have an head start in the *Away with the fairies* stakes!!

I liked it!, though, didn't quite get the gist of the piece.

"Alighting upon his arm",,,,, perhaps,,, "His bough"?

Obi.

I wrote that long ago. Yes, I am Irish, Northern Ireland to be exact. My Old One told me of my family history when I was a wee lad. In it he told me how we were descended from Milesius.
Milesius came to Ireland when the Romans took that part of Hispana We come from the O'Neill who are from the original line of Milesius .
But, I digress. Eriu was the Queen of the Danaan. After Miles I us defeated the Fir Bolg (Wild Men in Gaeilge), and the Fomorians. He marched on Tara to defeat the Danaan. Upon arriving, prepared for battle, a great mist covered the High Hill of Kings, and when it cleared, the army of Eriu had disapoeared.
I like bough, but I imagine trees as being living things, so arm is what I chose. Thanks for the feedback. There will be some I publish on here that vary from random thought, my time in service and traditional views of Ireland. Just because I fought in Her Majesty's Forces never dampened my love and pride. The next one I'm putting on I actually was called in by my commanding officer to answer for its publication in a Nationalist magazine.
