A Morning Pandemonium

Tan-gray mottled, her tongue hangs out
long and dry; the female sniffs
around the golf course’s creosote bushes.

It’s pupping time. Coyotes
have their dens well within teeing
distance, not heeding golfer’s cries of “Fore.”

Yipidi yap grrr yip yap yipidi yap . . . .
My miniature dachshund and her sidekick,
a miniature pincher, tow me in their wake--

Attack mode. Let’s get at that coyote.
Yip yap yipidi yap . . . .
I pray those leashes will keep these little
fools secure--for their own sake.

With a mien of disgust, the large predator
eyes my fearless Alpha dogs,
sticks her head into a Rosemary bush
and extracts her prey, a rabbit for her hungry
pups; nonchalantly, she slinks off,

followed by more yipidi yap grrr
yip yap yipidi yap; yip yap yipidi yap . . . .
That ungodly racket should suffice
to deflect a golf ball or two into the sand trap.

I live next to a golf course that's populated with coyotes. My dogs hate them, and try their best to drive them into the bushes. Of course, I keepmy idiot dogs them on their leashes.

Hi, Jerry
Perfect title, I felt the mayhem throughout! I cannot imagine coyotes on a golf course, but I guess - why not? At one time, they were spotted only in the countryside, but there have been more sightings in built up suburbs within the past 10 years or so. You've described the coyote very well. Stay safe, little Alpha dogs!
Thank you!

guess what? I think my dogs ate my reply to your nice comment coze it's cone. Goody! now I get to write it all over again and tell you about the seven golf courses we have here while you just have piles of snow, I reckon. Thank you for your nice comment, and I like the yipping of our Arizona wolves that make me think of Jack London's Wilderness Adventure stories. We have some 7 golf courses in my community, and coyotes are well accustomed to the golfers' constant cries of Four as the wack that little ball or slip on that little pile of dog do-do my dogs had left behind. Thank you, dear Lady; appreciate your comment very mucho. Jerry
