Cat Tale

I’ll put in a good word for you
when I visit Bastet,
who resides in her kingdom
along the winding Nile
I’ll tell her all about you

I’m happy to do this for you
because I am fond of your fondness for me
And the belly rubs too, of course!

When I return, I can lift your spirits
if they are in the black corners;
pull them back from the darkness

The Goddess sends her regards,
and thanks you for looking after
the children of her feline empire

What a lovely poem, Michael. I love cats, so you strike a warm feeling inside of me. I know about cats in Egypt, the Nile and so on, so it makes your work all the more attractive.
I think I understand your doubts with the title, it's a play on words. IMO, I think it's fine. All of the strophes are fine and so is the spacing. Hope you bring on more about cats. I have one cat, but have had many over the years.

Thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts Gracy! I only have dogs as pets now, which I love dearly, but some of the coolest critters I have known have been our feline friends.

is the closeness of [fond] to [fondness for me]. Other than that, I think you have captured the love of cats by anyone who has ever owned one. [If one can be said to OWN a cat] LoL. ~ Geez.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Thanks Geez. I hear you about the use of fond and fondness. I was really conflicted about this as I was trying for an additional play on words along with the title. Some seemed to like it, but I may revisit in a future edit. Appreciate your thoughts on this piece!
