Cat Tails...

The dog lies under the old oak tree
and the cats stand idly by
"Let's get old Blue to chase us
I'm so bored, that I could cry"

"Nah, it's too hot and I fear his age
Might cause him to have a stroke"
Simon Siamese said it with a grin
Voice purring as he spoke

"Let's go down, to the barn and see
If the mice will play
Let's see who can catch the biggest
I'm feeling murderous today"

So off they went, to the shadows deep
Inside the barn so dark
They paused to say hello to Bessy
Before they heard the bark

A shadow whirled out from the stall
A new dog had come to town!
No one told them, let them know
Not like Blue, who is a clown

Cats were scrambling everywhere
Eyes wide and showing whites
They've lost their cool, looked the fool
Escaping vicious bites

Breathing hard and panting now
Setting up in the rafters
They heard the bark of Old Blue dog
Gasping with sheer laughter

"Hey, I thought me and Spike
Would have a little fun
Been a while, since I've chased you,
But Spike's got you to run"

"He's my cousin from the city
Come to stay the summer"
The cats to a member, shivered
Simon says; "This is a bummer"

"Come down from the ceiling kitties
Spike won't hurt you none
His bark is worse than his bite
We're just having fun"

The summer went by so quickly
Tricks were often played
Spike and the cats got exercise
With Old Blue laughing where he laid

I could make you laugh. I thought that this would give you a chuckle. I will keep trying to outdo the Audience of Cows though.
Maybe I'll do pigs or horses next? Keep your head up dear, I just know that something will break for you. I'm sure that you are great with those kids and someone will be looking for your expertise. ~ Geez.

The Audience of Cows on my grandson and a couple other people and they all said that; like you, they could see the visuals.
Keeping them coming! ~ Geez.

Hi, Geezer,
The lazy days of summer on the farm! So refreshing! I could hear the voices of the animals, and feel the stress the cats felt from Spike. This was a good laugh which I really needed! Will there be a sequel to keep up on the latest shenanigans on the farm? (Betsy may have a thing or two to add!)
Thank you!
L

a strong possibility that there will be more from the farm. I guess Bessy probably has a tail or two to tell. Thanks for your read and comments; you ladies give me and my muse plenty of material to work with, so I guess I got to keep them coming! ~ Geez.

neighbors dropped off a little kitten, no bigger than a man's hand, but feisty enough to terrorize our fully grown cat. Now that he is settling in, he is very playful with us humans and dogs. In fact, he thinks he is a dog. Your poem is really cute. Animals can be so funny, and I couldn't live without them around me. Thanks for the laugh. Jerry

If cats ruled the world, it would be a better place.

No mice or rats for a start.
