Living A Nightmare (August Contest)

Eyes open yet blank
impervious to what's going on
questions without answers
why me,
steeped in the stigma
of being treated like an untouchable?

The cobwebs on the ceiling
threatening to strangle me in their web
whir of the fan alike whisper of a witch
while I swing with the pendulum
between now and eternity.

Feeding on spoonfuls of hope
swallowing fear, betraying it
struggling to break free
of the silence, the brooding, the ignominy
imprisoning me.

Minutes feel like hours,
hours like days,
in the darkness within these walls
I crave to see beyond
to breathe fresh air,
to know if it's day or night..

I lose count of days
of this punishing quarantine
a chapter I would gladly erase,
once the door opens
to day fifteen

relishing what I eat, drink, breathe
being a human again
sitting on the verandah
amidst loved ones, sipping coffee,
listening to the music of their laughter
with my heart dancing merrily..

thanks for the time to read and comment...good to know you liked it...you are right, the simple things we take for granted in normal times are suddenly denied during the pandemic....i had read in a book by Lee Iaccoca that Italians love to hug others which too you must be missing...

thanks again..
